People say Mastodon is too difficult! I post a single photo of a potato on a trash can and get 100 boosts in 2 hours. Doesn’t seem that difficult, you just have to not be a clout chasing sociopathic asshole and it’ll work just fine.

@occult@vox.ominous.net I think what they mean is not that mastodon or the Fediverse is too difficult to figure out how to make work or even difficult to understand in principle. It's that they can't figure out how to make money off of it. They want to follow the money and look at the income stream and are shocked when they're told it doesn't have that. They don't believe it because they don't want to believe it, and therein their interest dies. The problem is not with Mastodon or the fediverse. The problem is with the audience. (and I can see this because I ran a bullet board system in the 1980s and 90s and understood Fidonet and Maximus. I remember trying to talk about that stuff to someone who ran a wildcat BBS and it was like talking to a brick wall. Hello, there are new crop of brick walls!) 🤦♂️

@occult@vox.ominous.net Potatoes on top of bus stops was a London thing in the 2000s. Presumably a bored artist coinciding with Banksy, and really only visible from the top deck of a London bus. The most amusing thing on the way to work was the top of the street furniture laid out for breakfast, with a cereal bowl and IIRC glass of orange juice.

You might be laughing it off but I assure you, the other one isn't laughing no more. You should see it: Absolutely mashed. It may not have any visible weapons in the picture but you don't want to get too close in range of its right hook. @occult@vox.ominous.net It just LOVES to ride the bus! It's its special interest. It's so nice and sociable, people treat it to bus rides. I usually encourage that, but this is a step too far. We're not even from the U.S. Strangers paying for a bus ride to the next town was alright, it's not that little anymore and very responsible usually. But the other side of the world? Now, I'm worried. Maybe, I should have paid more attention, talked to it, and scaled the bus rides a bit back … 😲 🤔
