@BenRiceM@mastodon.social There's also the issue that so many people just do not want to acknowledge exactly how harmful she is. They treat her as an author with maybe some poor opinions rather than someone who made it her life's mission to eradicate trans people from society and uses her millions of £ and millions of followers to make this happen every single day - with infuriating success.

@BenRiceM@mastodon.social And it’s going to get worse when HBO start their MASSIVE subscriber drive towards the end of the year with the TV series.

@BenRiceM@mastodon.social Yup, it’s not even that good and there’s so much better out there without an actual monster who created it

@BenRiceM@mastodon.social I have seen this mentioned once in your replies but it is entirely possible that audiences are enjoying the universe while completely unaware of J.K. Rowling as a person. Furthermore; a lot of people are capable of separating the art from the artist. I personally cannot. Some who are aware of her don't allow that to pollute their personal experience with the art. I don't think most lovers of HP are doing it for hate reasons or eagerness to line a hateful, resentful creature's pockets.

I hate having to say this, I hate having to turn my back on people whose work or posts I otherwise enjoy, but it keeps happening and it’s so fucking depressing. It’s the lowest possible bar. and yet.

@BenRiceM@mastodon.social In all honesty, that might be me at some point. Preemptively block me if you want. I will not buy any of #Rowling's products. I only use materials available from my local public library or ones that I've owned for 20 or more years, before anybody knew #JKRowling is living garbage.

@BenRiceM@mastodon.social Luckily the fandom continues to exercise sanity... jfc. https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2026/aug/10/harry-potter-fans-force-relocation-of-430m-undersea-cable-to-avoid-dobbys-grave

@BenRiceM@mastodon.social same. I occasionally see Harry Potter as someone’s interest on a dating app profile and it’s like 🙅🏼♀️

@BenRiceM@mastodon.social yes and this really annoys me: https://mas.to/@afewbugs@social.coop/117070276725917015 (read the last paragraph in the story; ugh)

@BenRiceM@mastodon.social JK posted an upskirt image of a Trans woman on her Shitter account, which is sexual harassment. If that isn't someone's last straw, then they're not worth associating with.

@BenRiceM@mastodon.social hey folks, don't be a dick about kids enjoying Harry Potter. And if you are a parent of kid that wants to read/watch HP buy things second hand or pirate stuff

@BenRiceM@mastodon.social Some of the actors I used to like are off my list after they decided to be part of the remakes. I could almost forgive someone who was struggling to get any work and in debt, almost. But these aren't.

@BenRiceM@mastodon.social currency in this world is attention, agreed. It's one thing to privately engage with a piece of art, it's another to publicly align with it when alignment has connotations due to the authors actions. Anyone that can't understand this is blinded by their own projection of value instead of moving with conviction against hate-speech

@BenRiceM@mastodon.social JK Rowling needs to be boycotted. I’m surprised how many just cannot do without technology or people who negatively affect so many. #boycott is an old american resistance tactic that works!! We won’t get anywhere until we can do a #generalstrike but americans can’t go one day without their comforts. I block all JKR, amazon promoters, meta crap.

@BenRiceM@mastodon.social Even back before we all knew rowling was problematic, I found the HP stuff meh. Once I found out, I stopped engaging with it. I wish more people would.

@BenRiceM@mastodon.social Not a big fan m'self, except for the MLP crossover fan fics, but if'n I'm going to do anything with HP, books and movies, used so she doesn't get any money from it. Anything bought new, only the original series to reward that cast as they're decent people, which is likely why she created the reboot.

@BenRiceM@mastodon.social The only way I’ve engaged with Harry Potter books has been to stealthily vandalise them in bookshops with a nice black permanent marker. (But… keep it under your hat.)

@BenRiceM@mastodon.social Not a problem. I enjoyed the first book, and the first movie in the series. Could not choke down any more of that crap. I don’t really like magic. It is just deprived kids, getting wish fulfillment, and becoming depraved power hungry wizards/witches. The Harry Potter franchise is big yawnfest for me. If magic were real, or good, we would be living in a natural, green paradise, where nobody goes hungry. “You need power only to do bad things. To do good things, love is enough.” - Osho.
