Ya know what? I'm gonna toot my own horn today On Here Specifically. I have already received at least a dozen thankful comments/replies for letting people know they can slow down door closers. A lot of people have been living with irritating bangs in apartment buildings and whatnot. And thanks to watching a YouTube video, their life is now better. I didn't sell anything to them, I just decided to share some knowledge in my own (hopefully entertaining) way.

So next time someone shares a YouTube video with you and you want to be a stick in the mud about that, remember that everyone has their own paths to knowledge *and* their own way to spread knowledge. "this could have been an article" Yeah it could be, and in fact it is! Anyone could look up door closers on Wikipedia and get the gist of my video's information. But many millions of people don't even know they're called door closers. Hell, I didn't! Not until I needed to install one.

@TechConnectify@mas.to Have to say, it was a pretty interesting video - and I learned something from it. I had no idea they could be adjusted. And now it's going to be really hard to resist the temptation to "fix" the door closers in every hotel I stay at!

@TechConnectify@mas.to As soon as we see that you've posted a new video, Husband and I put it in our "watch this together" playlist - sometimes one of us will go to add it to that playlist only to find that the other's already done it. :) Your style and content is fantastic.

@TechConnectify@mas.to F the haters. I'm a renter without a driver's licence, so like 80% of your videos have no practical use for me. But I love every single one of them. I love discovering how everyday home technologies work. I love the way you talk about them and I love the dad jokes. Social media (and YouTube especially) is filled with this overproduced algorithm-chasing crap. And I love your stuff for not chasing the trends and just doing your weird old-school tv show on seemingly mundane things

@TechConnectify@mas.to I will pay a compliment too: you're awesome at what you do! You have some magic way of grabbing and holding my attention through something I didn't even think I was interested in. Your pacing is fantastic, I never once think "shut the hell up and get to the point". Your enthusiasm for a subject (even when dripping with annoyance) is infectious and your set is wonderful. YT would frankly be a better place if there was more content like yours, Veronica Explains, and CRD.

@TechConnectify@mas.to I agree that videos instead of text based documentation has become a big problem... But I don't understand why anyone would complain about your videos in that context... I mean, you're not replacing or displacing any other documentation. You're not preventing the creation of other documentation, and you're not even responsible for it. You're just adding another form. That's useful!

@TechConnectify@mas.to I watch every one of your videos, including your second channel, TC*. I like them a lot. I just don't think video is the right medium for tutorials in particular. In a tutorial, I want to be able to skim and find the one thing I don't remember, to jump back and forth, to pause just by not moving my eyes instead of complex, coordinated finger gestures. That's just usability. Not being a stick in the mud. *I'm calling you "TC" because you don't give us a name to use.

@TechConnectify@mas.to I've adjusted door closers both in the office and at home long before you made that video. I probably broke some "safety regulations " and "insurance policies" by doing that myself instead of waiting for my employer or my landlord respectively to eventually call an over-priced "professional" to adjust a few screws. But I was sick of me and everyone else getting startled every time someone came through these dang doors so I just did it. Only problem over here in Germany is that we usually don't have AC in private homes and the temperature differences between summer and winter seem to require adjustment of the door closer. At least the ancient one we have at my place seems to have that problem where it sometimes doesn't have enough momentum for the lock to latch properly.
