Me: contributes one tiny line to an AI/LLM crawler blocker repo two years ago. LinkedIn spam: You must love AI based on the repo I definitely took a look at to see what it was about… wanna work on LLMs?! Sigh. 🙄

I rarely skip clicking a Low Roar suggestion on YouTube. I hadn't seen this video before, though, and made me teary-eyed. 🥲 Such wonderful music. Heartbreakingly wonderful. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CLdqhX18rEw

Ah man, I was just listening to his music the other day, wondering if he'd release new music soon. RIP Kavinsky, who was doing what the French do best. https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c204n74xyv3o

Ran my 3rd half marathon today. Doing a full one seems mad, though to be fair Cincinnati has a lot of hills. Maybe I could handle the flattest marathon in the world? I'm glad I did it. My legs are not. Side note only I care about: Nike Running Club fudged the tracking, splitting it into two separate activities. Strava then imported the two activities. Hmph. Well… I exported the Strava GPX files (it's XML), merged them (it's easy), and now I have one clean race. (it&#...

Dipping back into view transitions after seeing @kevinpowell's recent video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f_aqzyIDudI). How would that work on my multitheme website? I used @JaneOri's scalar trick to find the exact radius of the clip-path circle at the origin of the transition (top right corner of the container or viewport) using min, sqrt, pow, tan, atan2… This was a fun little #CSS challenge! Didn't push this live because there's a ~250ms interactivity delay...

@beep This was a fascinating read, Ethan! Thank you for sharing (even the sicko section — *especially* the sicko section, with the reminder of your sensational post about pango florp poob, chef's kiss). I also just noticed how your site footer, which is lovely at any size, looks under 1200px wide and it's particularly gorgeous with that centred layout.

I know nostalgia is one helluva drug, but I wish more musical artists (specifically the ones I listen to 🙃) would re-record their albums, or at least major tracks. Thrice did this with The Artist in the Ambulance, and the result is incredible. Same songs, different feel (+guests!), good times. (I am speaking of bands that have been around for 20+ years where their style might have evolved and can justify a fresh take — not talking about a remaster, though I occasionally appreciate those too!)

I would love for a media's `autoplay` attribute to respect `prefers-reduced-motion` to make some background videos less hostile to users (care to guess what I'm working on right now?). I see @jaffathecake is already on the case in https://github.com/whatwg/html/issues/11605 and there's a few thoughts about compatibility — tough decision to make for sure. I'd certainly be favour of something like `autoplay="auto|forced" where auto means no autop...

JS Naked Day has begun on https://chriskirknielsen.com ! All while I am faced with a complex design to implement at work which will require me to use a bunch of JS. It's funny how that works…

I created a #slashpage for my #slashpages last night, as one does: https://chriskirknielsen.com/slashes/ And because languages are a big part of my nerdy side, I created a new `/languages` page as well. I don't know what the requirements are to get that added to slashpages.net (hello @robb) but it would be very cool to read about other folks' linguistic lore!

Local link seems interesting as well for anyone adding icons to external sites. `a:not(:local-link)::after { content: ' ↗️'; }` And there' a functional notation to match the current subfolder? That's wild. Again, not a lot of use-cases racing through my mind (maybe it could be helpful in a blog sidebar if your permalinks are /yyyy/mm/dd to highlight an archive list for the current month/year), but I still find it very interesting to have the option! https://www.w3.org/TR/2026/WD-...

For some time, I've wanted to try and replicate how my #ocular #migraine episodes look to me. This is a rough approximation (and your computer fans will eventually spin because it's garbage code) but it is pretty close: basically a screen crack where each shard changes colour randomly all the time, which moves as you look around. It is luckily rare and short, but still, I wish I wasn't so dang online that even my sight glitched! ⚠️ Motion Warning: https://codepen.io/edito...

I responded to @1password's email asking about opting out of AI and such, and they sent an automated response. I responded again saying it didn't answer my questions, which I reiterated… and they sent that automated email again. I am reminded of @jimniels's recent post about care (https://blog.jim-nielsen.com/2026/observations-on-care/). It checks out!
