This week has felt like autumn when we wake up. Foggy, a little bit of a chill in the air. The copper beech at the bottom of the hill is that deep purple it gets before all the leaves start to turn. The little tree island near the horses has started to shed its leaves. I'm not quite ready to turn the heating back on yet, but I know it's not too far off.

I envy people who had a healthy, good relationship with their parents or step-parents because there's a worn path on how to grieve and respond when death inevitably comes. Now I'm here going "okay, the circle of care means that my dad gets support and doesn't need to deal with me working my shit out but no one else in my life knew what my relationship with her was like and this is going to be complicated." I guess the good thing is that no one is expec...

Augs and I have discussed retirement locations and he would like to travel but have a home base near his family in our golden years. I expected this to be the case as he's quite close to his siblings. So I've been looking at things to do that aren't Work-Work to keep me busy and in some sort of routine and involved with the community no matter where we end up in Britain in 15 or so years. I have landed on a cottage bakery and/or becoming the local tamale lady as well a...

I've traced the new pattern for my smaller size and I'm just glad I've decided to shift to adjustable clothing for the autumn and winter sewing. Tomorrow I'll finish cutting the pattern out and then I'll cut the fabric for it. I think I'll do one denim skirt, one wool, and one heavy cotton. I have some IKEA heavy cotton that might be a fun skirt fabric.

I now have all the skirt pieces (except the bias tape) cut out and overlocked. Oh, I also need to cut the interfacing. If I can't sleep again tonight, I'll make the bias tape and start sewing the skirt pieces together. With the buckle instead of the ties, this should go together quite quickly, though I'm waiting on the proper colour match for the top stitching sections. The general piecing together I have a thread that matches the value of the fabric and shouldn&#...

Me, to Augs: Pop quiz! You're upstairs and you need scissors. You know that across the hall is my office and there are scissors there. What do you do? Augs: I walk down the two sets of stairs to my office to get scissors that I know for certain are not fabric scissors. Me: Good answer! Augs: I am so scared right now and it was just a hypothetical. Did someone make a wrong decision? Me: Yes, but that person was not you, so rejoice!

Eyelet punch set is arriving today, so I'll be getting back to the skirt this evening or tomorrow after errands. I also need to seriously organise my sewing accessories (or at least put them all in the same drawer) because I can't find the tie/lace threading thing I thought I had. Which I might not have. I did order some glacier blue wool to make another one of these skirts. I'm going to do the cut-as-lined (I'm sure it has a different term, anyone know?) wher...
