@bodhipaksa@mastodon.scot Haha, yeah, alt text is a really good thing to include with images, sometimes it can even help people who aren't visually impaired, if the image is of an item the viewer isn't familiar with and stuff like that. I don't see too well myself, and I hate how on Mastodon in the web browser, when I have the page zoomed in on a timeline, posts and stuff seem to vibrate. It's really strange. I think it might have to do with the scrollbar or something.

@bodhipaksa@mastodon.scot I’ve been describing every image on here since the importance was explained to me but I’m a bit confused. Others had said that brevity was key but short and succinct description is not how I would approach describing something to a dear friend on the phone.

"link Unlabeled graphic b0cfcba424e13ef6". Imagine if that was your only way of seeing 75% of the pictures on your timeline every day.

@bodhipaksa@mastodon.scot Great toot. We should all make the effort with image descriptions. There is also a helpful bot account here on mastodon called Please Caption. If you follow it, every time you post an image without a description it sends you a message to remind you that you can redraft the post, adding the image description. It's useful if you're like me and are but just a bit too old/stupid/forgetful to remember. Please Caption Bot @PleaseCaption@botsin.space

@bodhipaksa@mastodon.scot I also find describing images with alt text to be a pleasant experience even when I dont think I want to do it. It is a good mental exercize and so long as you respect people and still describe the image you can have a lot of fun with it.
