@benroyce@mastodon.social Americans are marvelling how a speech about welcoming immigrants could be written so long ago, in the 1500's. Honestly, in the Old World, this is nothing. We have stories like these from thousands of years ago. They were all written down in a thing called The Bible. You kids should read it.

"U.S. President Donald Trump has frozen billions of dollars around the world in aid projects, including over $268 million allocated by Congress to support independent media and the free flow of information. Reporters Without Borders (RSF) denounces this decision, which has plunged NGOs, media outlets, and journalists doing vital work into chaotic uncertainty. RSF calls on international public and private support to commit to the sustainability of independent media." https://rs...

"We take a walk in Tehran without a hijab. Girls still roam the streets, wearing colorful t-shirts, their tied summer colored hair tied or it cut short because of the heat. They raise their heads and make eye contact with other women, offering silent encouragement. As Samira continues walking with me, she expresses her pride in being a woman. She admires the courageous women who refuse to regress, and she herself refuses to be humiliated by donning the hijab." https://iranwire...

Ukrainian President Zelensky is in London today. He met King Charles again and gave him an iPad specially set up by Ukrainian intelligence so Charles can monitor the front lines of the war. King Charles promised he would share the iPad with Prime Minister Keir Starmer. I know, there's a war on, but it's all just so cute. #SlavaUkraini

"The war on Iran, even as it spreads and destabilises the Middle East and the global economy, is not real. This is how it is being portrayed by the Trump administration. The war is a video game, a spectator sport, a social media festival of dunking. The Trump administration is like a gamer in a dark basement, downing beers, nursing deep insecurities, hectically self-soothing through flashes of colour and noise on a large screen. Maximum hit, minimum effort." Nesrine Malik h...

In the UK, Nigel Farage has once again been caught doing Cameo videos sharing far right, racist and anti-Semitic messages. The fun part is the price he charges is about £70 per video. Personally, there's no way I'd say something racist or anti-Semitic for £70. Maybe that's why, unlike Farage, I'm not a millionaire. Or far right. Or racist. Or anti-Semitic. #UKPolitics https://www.thelondoneconomic.com/politics/unearthed-clips-show-nigel-farage-using-extremist-slogans-in-cameo...

Right, as it's Armchair General time again for the Iran war, my detailed military analysis indicates that the U.S. and Israel has almost zero chance of eliminating the threat of Shaheed drones from Iran. They're 3 metres long, can be hidden almost anywhere and can be launched from almost anywhere. And in a country the size of Iran there's a whole load of anywhere to choose from. To put it in terms Trump might understand- Drones small, Iran BIG!

"AI, like war, is a hyper-masculine fantasy of God-like power. But it’s nothing of the sort: it’s just a story, a myth, that’s being imposed on us by a self-interested cohort of unaccountable men succoured by a pliant and incurious press. Forget Andrew Tate, this is the real manosphere. One whose edges we can’t even see because we’re living inside it. Our world is controlled by these men, their platforms, their alliances with nation states – technology-fuelled political power which is...

It's being reported that the Iranian women's football team have left Australia with 7 of the squad of 26 having claimed asylum. The women, some with small children at home, all had to make an impossible decision. The could stay in Australia, with all the repercussions on their families at home in Iran, or go back to their families in Iran and face the consequences. I know Trump will be disappointed they didn't all stay because now he can't claim the win, but the women couldn&#...

The latest news from Australia is that so far 5 of the Iranian women's football team have reached out and asked for asylum. As they are currently with the police there is a chance they may say enough about how their guards have been keeping them virtual hostages for the police to intervene on behalf of the remaining members of the squad. #FreeIran #WomanLifeFreedom https://edition.cnn.com/2026/03/09/sport/australia-iran-women-soccer-asian-cup-intl-hnk

@iinac@climatejustice.social There are no winners when Trump makes the rules. Starmer's in an impossible situation. I don't think it's useful to question his motivations when he doesn't really have any. He's just reacting to circumstances way beyond his control.

@BibSleigh@mastodon.social @marjolica@social.linux.pizza It's tempting, but the U.K. is doing everything it can NOT to escalate the situation. As sickening as the whole situation is to us, most of the U.K. public is not against us using our military capacity in the Middle East to try to contain the situation and defend the other Gulf states.
