@TechConnectify TIL that US kettles also uses litters, I thought it was just canada being weird with units.

@TechConnectify Thank you, it was very informative, if only just because of the new imperial unit I’ll be able to rage against!

@TechConnectify This was great! And I now learned that our German kettle runs with 2.2 kW for some reason.

@jernej__s@infosec.exchange 2025-11-27 20:31
@TechConnectify Now you just need an European arc welder which plugs into a Schuko socket that works at 3.6 kW :)

@TechConnectify After clicking on the video I was briefly confused because this isn’t a Colin Furze video. Well done!

@TechConnectify breakfast cups were new to me. I am an American, so what I know about British breakfast is limited to the Full English and beans on toast.

@TechConnectify Love it but have you seen "10 Second Kettle" on the Photonicinduction channel? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dDLw1Rx_cAI

@TechConnectify Never heard of a breakfast cup. But kettles never used to have quantity marking on the sides anyway; whatever markings they have are going to be recent innovations from most people's PoV. Have you considered investigating on-demand water dispensers? Or these little drop-in-the-cup 240V boiling rings we used to get for travel? Now they're fun.

@TechConnectify Battery technology has gotten so much better and cheaper that I wonder if it's not starting to be feasible to have appliances like this with a builtin small battery that will be able to boil water much faster when needed, then slowly recharge when it's done. Could have higher-power IH heaters and ovens as well, perhaps.

@TechConnectify My 2200W kettle is marked in litres, none of that 'breakfast cup' nonsense.

I do not yet understand how Alec gets 6 kW. Can someperson explain? Using a USA 120 V kettle on a 240 V socket doubles the Watt. So 1,5 kW to 3 kW. Where do the other 3 kW come from? @TechConnectify

@TechConnectify oh, I claim insurance companies are going to love it. "You did what? ... I see. Easy case. Claim rejected"

@TechConnectify Can I sue for copyright infringement?! LOL. As a British-American in Texas, I happened to have a perfectly working DeWalt cordless drill. With a battery charger that... only works on 240V. So my Dad brought an outlet with him on one of his visits and we wired it onto a NEMA 14-30P plug. But we cut one of the pins off, so the plug now works in both our 14-30R (tumble dryer) and 14-50R (EV charger) outlets. To code? LOL. Works? Hell yeah! Burned down the house? Not yet. 13 years & counting, and I still use that drill & charger.

@TechConnectify You did British things and expected the units to make sense‽

@TechConnectify now I need to order a US kettle to speed up my tea making skills. Ultimate question: how fast can you boil water without it undergoing dissociation. I know that water can split when you drop burning thermite on it. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dissociation_(chemistry)
