I've been learning about physical security for fun from Deviant Ollam for years, but this is the first time I've read a story in the newspaper about the kinds of crooks he's trying to defend against: https://www.nytimes.com/2026/07/12/magazine/data-center-heist.html?unlocked_article_code=1.xVA.hlgq.qdgNFLmqUTCg

@_elena@mastodon.social Hi Elena! I tried this today (up through installing nextcloud) I am pretty much up and running. Even though some things didn't go 100% how the guide said they would (Hetzner now charges for snapshots, DNS is weird, etc.,) your guide gave me the confidence to try! And build the airplane as I fly :D Next step for me: add users to YunoHost and get them set up on Nextcloud! Future step: figure out backups....

@signalapp@mastodon.world Why should I donate when the CEO gets such a huge compensation already? Aren't there discount CEOs available? EDIT: idk what I was misremembering (maybe the 35.8 $M expenses/revenue) but this shows the c-suite compensation and it is less than I remembered. https://projects.propublica.org/nonprofits/organizations/824506840 EDIT2: all the employees are getting $20 mil combined. Not sure how much of that is c suite.

Now that the library does not assign fines for overdue books (it charges you to replace the item after enough time has elapsed) is it breaking a social contract to keep the books past the 3rd automatic renewal? No one has it on hold. I'm just slow at reading, and there's no fine now, so, ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

@blogdiva WE OBEY NO ONE! WE ARE THE SUPERIOR BEINGS. -- Some Republican staffer controlling an official Twitter, probably, after saying "homelandmaxxing"
