THE ROLLING STONES Let It Bleed 1969 Canada pressing [early red labels] With certain bands, I’m more than ok with never hearing them in my life ever again. I have been clobbered over the head with bands like The Stones, Beatles, The Who, and Led Zeppelin over and over again, and I just don’t care to hear those band’s records any more. There are a few exceptions to this sentiment, and Let It Bleed is certainly one of them. It is hands down my favorite Stones record, and I will ALWAYS be down...

PINK FLOYD Relics 1981 Canada reissue Having a lovely Saturday afternoon with The Floyd. This is probably the Pink Floyd recording that I’ve listened to the most in my life, and by that measurement, I guess you could call it my favorite Floyd record period, which I’d be ok with. Meant to whet people’s appetites between Atom Heart Mother and Meddle, it’s got all the killer early singles on it, b-sides, soundtrack recordings from More, and the previously unreleased ‘69 track “Biding My Time”....

@fc@universeodon.com Did you hear that the Post Office recalled their latest stamps? They had pictures of Rays players on them and people couldn't figure out which side to spit on.

ED O’BRIEN Blue Morpho 2026 Europe pressing Without a doubt one of my favorite records of 2026. This is ASTONISHINGLY good. To be honest, I was not impressed with Ed’s EARTH album. It just sounded like him trying to figure out what he could do outside of the cozy confines of Radiohead, away from Thom and Jonny. It was a little too conventional & clumsy sounding for me. With Blue Morpho, it seems that he discovered that he didn’t have to put his broken self back together in exactly the s...

THE SHARP PINS Radio DDR 2025 U.S. pressing More perfect #lofi #janglepop from Sharp Pins! I posted the equally excellent Turtle Rock last week, and I’ve been giving repeated listens to this one as well. I guess this was originally released as a home tape in April of ‘24, and this vinyl version is expanded to 14 songs, straddling that awesome line of do-it-yourself Guided By Voices, Big Star, some Beatles, as well as some of the clsssic sounding British Invasion bands, too. I’ve taken quit...

THE ID The Inner Sounds Of The Id 2023 U.S. 2xLP MONO reissue Blue And Purple Vinyl Last spin of the night goes to one of the most satisfying reissues of all time for me. Such a killer (and criminally underrated) #psychedelic rock record, & Sundazed really outdid themselves here. An EXCELLENT sounding mono reissue from the original analog master by Kevin Gray, but where this separates itself is the bonus record. A completely different version of the album was found when they rediscover...

PROTOMARTYR Hotel Usona 2026 Europe Ltd. Edition pressing Gold vinyl Just picked this up today, and I’m about to throw it on. I’m super excited for this. I’ve been all-in on Protomartyr since their first record Under Color Of Official Right, and each time out, they have offered something a little different than before, always engaging, always interesting. They’re a band I’ve always appreciated, and will always support when they put out something new. They are fully themselves, and just do wha...

NEIL YOUNG Le Noise 2010 U.S. pressing Have been thinking about listening to this all day while out and about town taking care of some things. Hands down, one of my three favorite Neil Young albums. There’s a magic about Le Noise. Daniel Lanois’ production approach to this is nothing short of remarkable. This is nothing but Neil singing and playing electric guitar, and by using distortion, echo, delays, feedback and other processing, Lanois transforms the performances into something oth...

Oh man! A random early-evening excursion with my wife and son pays off! I grew up in Massachusetts, so I spent a lot of time watching WSBK TV38 and WLVI 56 a lot when I was a kid, with some of the Worcester Channel 27 mixed in. THIS was a regular staple on both 56 AND 38 over the years, and every time it was on, I’d watch it. Seeing it on BluRay got me extremely sentimental, and I HAVE to grab it. I probably haven’t seen it since ‘89 or ‘90. We’re gonna find out real quick how it’s aged...

…OF DEATH ...Discography 2022 U.S. 2xLP Compilation ETCHED Red/Yellow + Red/Black Blob vinyl O.K… Last spin of the night won’t be for everyone, but this shit is RIGHT up my alley. TOTALLY unhinged #hardcore #noise #punk whose sense of timing, rhythm, & madness I fully identify with. This is the complete recorded output of the Fort Worth, Texas band; roughly one hour long, blasting through 30 songs of complete screamo violence. It is wildly frantic, super-abrasive, and intensely chaotic...

THE BOO RADLEYS Everything's Alright Forever 2026 Europe reissue Today was the first day of fall, and I was beyond thrilled to see this downtown today. This album is synonymous with Autumn for me, and has been since the first time I heard it in the Fall of ‘92, when I dubbed it from my sister’s boyfriend’s tape collection. So it was kinda fate that I finally found it on vinyl today, to help usher in my favorite season. This was in my ears a lot at the beginning of each year of high schoo...

THE EDSEL AUCTIONEER Voice Of The Harolds 1990 UK pressing Sweet-ass noisy Saturday jams. Kinda grunge-y, super loud indie rock from Leeds, and this is a mini-album that collects their first single, and E.P. material. Some Dino Jr., Husker Du, My Bloody Valentine and Pale Saints vibes, with great guitars. Super ragged and punchy sounding. John Peel heard their early demos and was so blown away by them that he brought them in Maida for a Peel session, which they recorded four songs for in...

PRINCE AND THE REVOLUTION Parade 1986 Canada pressing Was in the mood for some Prince on this beautiful Sunday afternoon. A blind Prince pull produced Parade. A perfect example of a VERY good soundtrack to a REALLY awful movie. This (with the exception of maybe Singles) has to be the gold standard. Acting as the soundtrack to the repugnant film Under The Cherry Moon, this has a bevy of killer tunes on it, particularly the final three tracks. Even if you dislike everything that comes befo...

SCREAMING TREES Even If And Especially When 2024 U.S. reissue Their second album overall, but their FIRST for SST Records. If all you know is the latter day Screaming Trees albums from the #90s (Sweet Oblivion, Dust), then hearing the SST material comes as quite a shock. This is a far more raw and PSYCHEDELIC brand of Trees. It’s rough, garage-y, a bit unrefined, and legendary frontman Mark Lanegan’s signature deep and weathered vocal is not there yet. It was THESE kinds of records that ma...

Great little haul of records today! A wonderful day of being out in the sun, and the first day I’ve truly felt myself after coming down with that nasty flu last few weeks. PHOTOGENIX Photogenix 1983 Canada 12” E.P. @ #45rpm First spin from the pile of today’s finds goes to the shortest one. A great little 4-song #newwave #postpunk -y from Montreal’s Photogenix. This appears to be the band’s only official release. A self-produced E.P. Apparently, at the time, Montreal’s pop scene was overrun with major-label economics. So this recording garnered some attention for being so independent and sounding SO good. Great little 4-pack of songs. #vinyl #vinylreco...

RAY LYNCH Deep Breakfast 1984 U.S. pressing A perfect late night spin, and one of my three favorite #ambient / #newage records ever. I first heard this WAAAY back in the mid 90s. I was visiting my best friend’s house for the first time, and upon entering his house, I saw a giant pile of CDs on a side table. “These yours?”, I asked him. “Nah, man. Those are my Dad’s.” I noticed most of it. A lot of classic rock, some folk stuff, Simon and Garfunkel…etc. Then I saw THIS in there. I had n...

It’s that time of year where I have to starting culling down some of my music library; whether it be vinyl, CDs, or anything else. Now that this awful summer flu I had seems to be gone, I can start. And everything starts in the basement. I’m going to start with the CDs first because believe me, it’s going to be the easiest. All of the CDs that were down there have now been brought upstairs, and added to what’s already been up here. These represent the NON-boxset discs, and have (with the ex...

THE REZILLOS Can't Stand The Rezillos 2023 Australia reissue An absolute classic from the first wave of British #punk ! It’s fast, energetic, has lots of poppy hooks, and a lot more fun than some of the super-serious political punk that came from the same time. There’s a fistful of legitimate classics on this, from “Top Of The Pops”, “Flying Saucer Attack”, “I Can’t Stand My Baby”, and a few really high-octane cover tunes that absolutely slay. Absolutely essential. #vinyl #vinylrecor...

SHANGHAI DOG This Evolution 1985 Canada pressing For fans of independent Canadian rock from the #80s , this is a bit of a sought after record. I found it in a thrift store in Chilliwack about a decade ago. A killer #postpunk #newwave rock record, it’s got a political tone to it, as well as dealing with themes of social unrest and alienation, like any good #punk record should. The bass lines on this album are killer! Those come courtesy of the great Ron Allan, who along with guitarist Mike...

MODEST MOUSE Good News For People Who Love Bad News 2011 U.S. 2xLP reissue Such a great album that I revisit SEVERAL times a year. I have a LOT of memories, both good AND bad, attached to this record. Major life events were scored by these songs over the course of three years, and even the bad ones are looked upon now with a sense of warmth and a little bit of resolve. I’m not what you would call a diehard Modest Mouse fan. I like a handful of songs scattered over some of their albums, but...

THE WAR ON DRUGS Slave Ambient 2011 U.S. 2xLP @ #45rpm A band I’ve always liked, but I’m still waiting on them to make an album as good as this one from front to back. Lost In The Dream came close, but there’s some clips or songs on that one, whereas this is pretty much a perfect record start to finish. “Come To The City” is such a good tune, as is “Baby Missiles”, which is one my band and I have tacked on to the end of our sets when our originals have been exhausted, and we need to stretc...

JAMES WHITE AND THE BLACKS Off-White 1979 Canada pressing Another great one from the “#nowave ” pile from yesterday, one of a handful of James Chance-related records. This takes the music made with The Contortions and reframes it through groovy dance music. It’s still weird (because everything Chance did had a bit of weirdness to it), just a little more disco. 😂 Punks and art-punks at the time had a universal disdain and hostility for dance music. Here, Chance gave them something they cou...

RYAN ADAMS 1989 2015 U.S. 2xLP pressing I find it hilarious that the only Taylor Swift album I like is not by Taylor Swift. 😂 Say what you want about Ryan Adams (most people do). Yes, he’s a bit of an asshole and a creep, but the dude is a hell of a songwriter. He’s also always done interesting cover versions of a vast array of songs, from many genres. So, back in 2015, when I heard he was doing an ALBUM cover of Taylor Swift’s 1989, it was gonna be good. I knew it would be: A. way more nu...

CONTORTIONS Buy 1979 U.S. pressing One of the 4 artists that appear on the previously posted No New York compilation, & one of a FEW James Chance-adjacent albums I picked up today. Chance was a flamboyant saxophonist who was a very integral part of that late #70s /early #80s #nowave /#artrock scene in New York. He and The Contortions played a very #avantgarde kind of punky #funk music, with flourishes of #jazz as well. Buy was the original band’s ONLY record, coming a year AFTER that...
