#3goodthings #ThreeGoodThings 1) Finished the ADHD 2.0 book. Appropriately quick read. Insightful - I learned a lot in its 135 pages (there are some pretty serious appendices!). Recommended. 2) Held a work meeting that involved a bit of a gamble - hoping to shift culture & stop some mean behavior. And I think I got lucky & found the right balance. 🤞 3) Gorgeous day. Couldn’t take photos as I rode down Market Street around dawn, but the few clouds lit by early sunrise looked like what th...

#ThreeGoodThings #3goodthings 1) Back to #Aikido! 2) Got asked to be #uke for one of the kyu test candidates for the next round. (Asked to be the test partner and “take falls for” a testing student. As I learned, my ukes were combination teachers/partners/coaches/cheerleaders, and I try to pay that forward when I get asked myself.) 3) Lunch with a former boss & mentor who became a friend. (And a collector of my spouse’s work and now they’re even closer with each other!)

#3goodthings #ThreeGoodThings 1) Gorgeous #SanFrancisco #Septober day. This is our real summer. 2) Went to the gym instead of to Aikido today - felt way better, but partner practice is a little too intimate and risky if there was a risk I could be contagious still. 3) Managed to put my Nidan (2nd degree) certificate into the frame in front of my Shodan, so both are safe but I don’t have to buy another frame.

#3goodthings #ThreeGoodThings 1) The outage at Mas.to got resolved. 2) Going to speak (on a panel) at a conference in Chicago. Haven’t been there in more than 30 years (land of several exes). Looking forward to it. 3) Still this ick lingers - but so far it hasn’t escalated into a full-blown cold or whatever. The continued low-level blah is annoying but worlds better than it could be!

#ThreeGoodThings #3goodthings 1) This cold or whatever it is has stayed low-level. For three days, mind you, but still mild so far 2) Kiddo’s volunteering at the #RandallMuseum and helping with their rescued wildlife - and I guess they brought in a possum today. 3) Solved a puzzle at work (I think - need to validate, but looks promising).

#ThreeGoodThings #3goodthings 1) Got to see some coworkers I haven’t had a chance to talk to in about a year. At least. 2) Monday #Aikido. It’s become rare that I can go on Mondays. 3) Got to walk home from work for a change. It was lovely.

#3goodthings #ThreeGoodThings 1) Kiddo got her first pair of #DocMartens today, an advance birthday gift. Yeah, I know, it’s not the same cultural/tribal signifier that it was in the ‘70s. Or ‘80s. But same age as when I got my first pair and it felt like a milestone, anyway. 2) All laundry done - including ironing because I am old school (or just old) - before dinner. 3) #TedLasso three episodes into the latest season hasn’t yet caught its stride, but still diverting to watch with spouse &amp...

#ThreeGoodThings #3goodthings 1) Spouse and I got to go to two #art gallery events this evening. Very, very different media (oil painting, textile, ceramic), all nice people to talk to, all very satisfying. 2) Small #Aikido group, all higher level students, intense class. 3) Kiddo had two classmates over - each had a recipe to cook for Spanish class. Sweet kids, and kind enough to share their homework with us! 😋

#3goodthings #ThreeGoodThings 1) Saw #LaurieAnderson at the #CurranTheater this evening with the spouse, kiddo, and SIL. “Paradise/Is exactly like/Where you are right now/Only much/Much/Better.” 2) Found help to fix a tool my team at work needs. Made me feel way more proud than it merited - it’s just been annoying for a long time. 3) Replacement #fountain pen arrived, along with ink I got to help get free shipping. Putting it away in a drawer, found a lot more ink that I’d forgotten about. What...

#ThreeGoodThings #3goodthings 1) Found a way to model some data at work that could be helpful. To me, anyway. 2) Spouse and I killed 3 mosquitoes between the 2 of us this morning before 6 AM. And apparently none of them got me first. 😇 3) Managed to fix a problem with my phone’s carrier that started with the last iOS update.

#3goodthings #ThreeGoodThings 1) I am still employed, despite getting cranky with my boss today. 2) Left work early, got in a bike ride and a gym visit to work through said crankiness. 3) Learned some more about my own flavor of #ADHD in therapy today. Nothing is fixed, but have a better idea of how I trick myself into freakouts and can maybe short circuit the “normal” way they play out.

#ThreeGoodThings #3goodthings 1) Local food writer said in a newsletter that the #TokyoCentralMarket should be a destination. Good! Selfishly I want them to succeed and stay in business for my lunch needs. 🤫 But the publicity could mean more competition for the lovely onigiri rice balls with the egg in the middle… 2) Got to meet #ScottWeiner at a neighbor’s hosted meet-the-candidate event. First time we’ve talked, but I run into him everywhere: #SFMUNI trains, my kid’s school, local businesses,...

#3goodthings #ThreeGoodThings Repeating something I tooted last year about 3 Good Things. Research says that it’s better than Prozac and more long-lasting for reducing burnout and increasing resiliency. I also love reading everyone else’s posts. I am not sure if the effects of that have been studied. Don’t believe me! Here is Dr. Bryan Sexton from Duke University: https://youtu.be/OYMQYhey08w?feature=shared

#3goodthings #ThreeGoodThings 1) I have a #fountainpen problem. Although I have lost track of how many I accumulated, I lost one. Left it somewhere while traveling. The good thing is that I had a *perfectly good excuse* to buy another one. 2) I commute on a bicycle *and* I wear a suit to work. There are very few bicycle messenger-style garment bags. Or maybe only one. And #Henty upgraded their Wingman this week. My 10-12 year old one has holes in it, which gave me a *perfectly good excuse* to b...

#3goodthings #ThreeGoodThings 1) Nice person at the Post Office gave me my shipment of c-pap supplies (they wouldn’t let me schedule redelivery), even the retail counters were closed. 2) Lovely farmers’ market visit with spouse & kiddo, getting fruit + veggies for soup for lunch. 3) Vegan (shojin ryori) Japanese food from Cha-Ya in Berkeley for dinner with SIL while we watched an old movie my FIL loved from his childhood.* (*It was An American in Paris, which has some great music and danci...

#3goodthings #ThreeGoodThings 1) Saw #PattiSmith this evening at #CityArtsAndLectures with my spouse. We are not young, but we were in the bottom decile of the age distribution in there! She is just endearing and kind and rocking and warms the heart. 2) Talking with the kiddo about drama on my side of the family actually helped me get some distance from it. 3) Got a bit of a catch-up day at work - which is great because I was starting to feel a but buried.

#ThreeGoodThings #3goodthings 1) #DadJokes - colleague who is a recent immigrant & English learner found a book of them and she is so enamored of the genre that she shares a photo of a page of jokes with every communication. (And they’re pretty awwwful in the best way.) 2) Got an apology from someone who behaved badly. Took some guts to own it. 3) Watching new season of #Trying with spouse & kiddo. Characters remain endearing even through the most cringe-inducing choices & situation...

#3goodthings #ThreeGoodThings 1) Back to School night (which in SF usually happens a month into the school year for unfathomable reasons) was good. I like the kiddo’s teachers. 2) Met a deadline at work. Not gracefully. But met. 3) Weather getting cooler. Almost time to break out the tweed again.

#ThreeGoodThings #3goodthings 1) It was a sunny but mild day. 2) I got approval for some team members to get a little extra pay for temporary extra assignments (you would think that’s be automatic, but no). 3) One argument with someone close to me heading to resolution. It’s a start.

#3goodthings #ThreeGoodThings 1) #Aikido with a good friend teaching. And the newer students who vanished returned after summer travels. 2) #FlowerPiano in #GoldenGatePark. Such a wonderful, intimate, human event. It will be joint for a few weeks - if you can make it, do. (Line is shorter before noon btw.) 3) Recommendation from my new therapist: A book called ADHD 2.0, by PsyD authors who have #ADHD themselves and first wrote about it together in the 90s. 1/2 way through and it’s eye-opening a...

#3goodthings #ThreeGoodThings 1) Got traction on some weird but sensitive HR issues at work. 2) Got a half-dozen recommendations from my new therapist for books about navigating ADHD as an adult, including one for couples with one member with ADHD. (Ordered 3 of the 6.) 3) Killed a mosquito in the bedroom *before* getting into bed.

#ThreeGoodThings #3goodthings 1) Ran into a grad school classmate I’d never seen in person (COVID cohort) outside the Japanese grocery store near my office. Nice surprise! 2) Ran into one of my favorite Aikido instructors from the dojo in front of the onigiri (fresh rice balls with goodies inside) in the Japanese grocery store. Doesn’t live in that city - just a coincidence. 3) Ran into a work colleague I enjoy on the way back to the office - he just moved into the building and I had no idea.

#3goodthings #ThreeGoodThings 1) Watching #StarTrekDiscovery with spouse & kiddo, and it’s the first we have all enjoyed since the original. It’s good enough to stand on its own without the lore. (I know it came out nearly 10 years ago…) 2) Gorgeous day again in the park, and the mountain lion had moved out toward the sea by the time we stopped to picnic in the #Panhandle. 3) Clean sheets (still have laundry to do, but sheets were done by bedtime)! https://sfstandard.com/2026/09/06/sf-panh...

#ThreeGoodThings #3goodthings 1) The lovely thing about working in #healthcare is that it is about helping people when they need it most. Or in my case, helping the people who help people. There is a cause, a purpose, and a clear benefit to others. 2) Spouse is introducing the kiddo to #TheGoodWife. In season 1 so far. #3goodthings #ThreeGoodThings Time to talk about music and about life stuff with the kiddo. In the luxurious position of being able to buy #art, and bought some today while bringing home the last piece we bought.* Oven-roasted halved Japanese and Hannah sweet potatoes. *Sounds obvious, but if you value art & artists, buy art! It is cheaper direct from the artist usually, while buying from a gallery boosts their reputation with people who can get them in front of even more people. E...
