No particular order: Vampires: The Masquerade - Bloodlines Star Wars Galaxies (pre-cu) Ultima Online Disco Elysium Gizmos and Gadgets Ultima, SWG, and Gizmos and Gadgets were more about the memories of playing them with friends/family. SWG still has some unique mechanics that I still view as the high tide of major publishers willing to take risks on complexity. Game was probably too ambitious for its own good. Vampires had a high level of jank even years after release, but boy did they nail the ambiance/music/open approach to quests for the time. Shame about the sequel.

Minecraft - It’s Minecraft Factorio - Best factory game on the market and one of the best-designed pieces of software of all time Celeste - Most artistic game on this list and the skill ceiling basically doesn’t exist Team Fortress 2 - Still a contender for the best class-based shooter of all time, I love making loadouts and screwing around. The Outer Wilds (obviously) The Talos Principle Dark Souls Factorio Dwarf Fortress (This last one is tough and I don’t know if this is the right choice. The other four are correct.) An honorable mention to Death Stranding. It isn’t in my top games, but I think it deserves to be more influential. It takes the boring part of most games, which is traversal, and builds the entire game around it. It’d be higher if it didn’t become so trivial by the end, but also designing your network that makes it trivial is part of the fun. More open world games should take more lessons from it and it’d solve some of the biggest issues of open world game: traversal just being a waste of time and boring.
