How come we still haven't engineered a solution to this?? There is no clear way to get the toast out without using a conductive implement like a fork or your finger. We’ve been to the Moon ffs Edit: Woah seems Lemmy really likes this kind of casual post

The solution is on your end, don’t put in slices that are too thick. There’s more than one way to toast a slice. There are toasters with wider slots: Here’s a conveyor toaster: youtu.be/GEOCBukuwK4 Here’s another cool, old toaster, you push a lever to flip the bread, toasts one side at a time: youtu.be/ABbmJSfwMoY This would work over your stove: A glass sided toaster that splits in half: youtu.be/Fv__lSiMmZA?t=29

We have… I’m more impressed that you found a toaster that doesn’t. I don’t think I’ve had a toaster in the last ten years that didn’t give a little bit of leeway on the lever to let you pull up a little bit more to be able to grab it.

Rapidly push the lever up to eject your toast and grab it midair. Works 95% of the time

Push it down then up real fast and then catch the toast as it flies out.

The problem is that you’re trying to use a fork or your finger. Bread goes into the toaster. You’re obviously supposed to fish it out with a bread knife. ~Practice your literary skills: can you guess which part of the statement is sarcasm? Write your answers below. What I don’t understand is why you’d cook your bread more. Isn’t that just more crust?

If i remember correctly, this is a gimmick so you can have a romantic toast breakfast where it releases your toast at the same time (British culture, eh?). But when I heard about it, i instead honed in on THE FABULOUS resistance to getting ALL-CRUmBED-oUT, which is the problem you identify in your post This particular toasted is from 106 years ago …catsarch.com/…/this_is_ny_1929_sweetheart_toaste…

Most toasters you can lift the pushy-downy-handle up a bit more than it rests at to lift the toast out. My big problem is that (in the UK at least, don’t know about other nations) the standard sized bread doesn’t fit fully in a toaster, so the top ~3cm is still bread.

We have, most toasters let you lift the lever higher to get it out.

Toaster oven. Solves this problem entirely.

Put a stronger spring in it and leave it on a slight angle toward a table at the opposite side of the room.

It’s actually a really simple solution, on a better toaster you can push the lever up and pop your food out to easily grab it
