Changing for P.E. in U.S. public schools Prompted by: www.theatlantic.com/family/2025/11/…/684907/ Today, the only naked bodies that many Americans will likely ever see are their own, a partner’s, or those on a screen. Gone are our unvarnished points of physical comparison—the ordinary, unposed figures of other people. In their place, we’re left with the curated ideals of social-media posts, AI-generated advertising, and pornography. The loss may seem trivial, but it also may change how peop...

Nvidia driver update confusion. What should I do? Once a week, or so, this shows up. In the past, when I have simply let it happen, not every time, but more than once, after the update, Blender is borked, and I need to Timeshift back to before the update. I have no way to know if updating will screw Blender without just trying, which is annoying. AFAIK, I have no issues with the video drivers the way they are. What I’ve been doing recently is setting to “ignore once”. Is there some reason I sho...

I routinely get texts to "Henry", which is not my name. I must have done the same--entered a fake name. The bastards are persistent, I keep blocking the number, and they keep texting with a different number. I don't understand the reasoning, if I go so far as to block your number, why do you think continuing to harass me is going to change my mind?

Half-an-hour? Might as well just get up and start the coffee. NBD. One hour? That sucks, because you can try to go back to sleep, but it will probably take 30 minutes because you're mad that you woke up an hour early, but didn't want to get up that early but debated staying awake anyway, and then you only get about 15 minutes of *good* sleep before the alarm wakes you up, and then you feel groggy. One hour early is much worse than half-an-hour early.

    >Mostly I’m just screaming onto paper. Been there. I think the physical act of putting pen to paper is important. The pressure, the speed, the neatness\--or lack of neatness\--of the writing--that tells us how far along we are in the process. When I started writing more neatly, started repeating myself, and writing in circles, I realized I was near the end. I kept the paper for about a year, but then threw it out. I never went back to read it, and I didn't want it anymore.

By now I think everyone realizes this has nothing at all to do with protecting children, it's about surveillance. These "public authorities" are not going to regulate algorithms, and impose stricter controls, as those do nothing to achieve their true goals. We really need to stop promoting the charade by playing along that they are honest actors. They are lying about their goals, we need to call them out on the lies.

I suppose I should be surprised that people WANT to give up their right to think for themselves. But, I'm not. >To address this gap, researchers ran an experiment during the final week of Japan’s February 8, 2026, general election. The experiment reveals a striking pattern: when asked which party to support in the election, five major AI models from three companies overwhelmingly directed voter profiles with left-leaning policy positions toward the Japanese Communist Party (JCP). The re...

I left Digg 15 years ago. I'm surprised it's still around. I've only heard about it since in this way, some quick announcement about the "new Digg". And, then, nothing. Reddit banned me for saying "see a Nazi, punch a Nazi." There's no way I'm going to bother with Digg, that's the past, and I have no doubt they'd sooner than later be the same as Reddit in that regard.

Till reading a couple of the posts, I'd forgotten about this: I was about 22, and living with my first roommate. He was a decent enough guy, but got rowdy when he drank with friends. I don't drink, but as an introvert who was trying to fit in with "normal" people, I went along with the following. He had some friends over, they were drinking, but not a lot. One of them speaks up about a woman, his manager at work, who they all seemed to know somehow, and hated. They know where...
