@overcastfm@mastodon.social I still can't get it to work in French, but I'm starting to wonder: Does it detect languages automatically or does it use the language set for the UI in iOS? It would explain why it only works in English for me.

@overcastfm@mastodon.social Congrats! Transcription for Portuguese works, but sentence breaks are nonexistant (likely not your fault). It appears to force a break after 60–100 words — is that your doing, or the model’s? If it’s you, a few suggestions: • The algorithm appears to add breaks immediately after the letter sequence ends, even there’s punctuation afterwards — would be better to break at whitespace instead • In fact, why not scan for a recent sentence break (period, exclamation or question mark followed by whitespace) rather than breaking mid-sentence? To avoid excessively short lines, it could limit to the second half of the excessively-long line (e.g. most recent 30–50 words) • The extra effort solution: if you have timings for individual words, find the longest pause after the end of a sentence, and break there (or, if you have voice change information, break when the speaker changes)

@overcastfm@mastodon.social Congrats on the release. The feature is awesome! Suggestion: add an option to locally re-transcribe episodes (ignoring your datacenter transcription). Sometimes the transcript is unsynced (usually because a misdetected dynamic ad) and it would be a useful plan B.

@overcastfm@mastodon.social Thanks & congrats on the transcripts feature! Based on very short testing, it works like a charm on English-language podcasts. And although I was 99,99% certain it wouldn't work, I just had to try a Finnish-language podcast also. Overcast downloaded a transcription model and worked on it locally, but as I expected, it didn't understand Finnish.

@overcastfm@mastodon.social Great to see transcripts in Overcast – but please also support transcripts that are already delivered via the RSS feed of the podcast. I put a lot of effort into creating the VTT file and it's working fine for Apple Podcasts etc. It should also be much more efficient to use the files that already exist than to transcribe everything again on device.

@overcastfm@mastodon.social Looking at a transcript today, it had a completely different ad break transcribed than what I was hearing in the episode. And because the ad break was longer, the transcript got out of sync with the audio for the rest of the episode. I have a theory. The ad I heard was for the podcast network itself, not a commercial product. My guess is that it’s using location for the ads. Because I’m in Japan, it didn’t do a DAI and did the network ad instead. Happy to help troubleshoot!
