Thank you to the dozens of helpful and clever people who helpfully and cleverly informed me that the joke does not work because today is actually 4/5. I did not know this, and appreciate you letting me know.

@ddgulledge@social.linux.pizza 2025-05-04 17:05
@ryan Suddenly I'm trying to imagine an epic SF or fantasy movie with a soundtrack composed by Dave Brubeck.

@robz@toot.robzazueta.com 2025-05-04 18:23
@ryan I live in his home town, where there's even a park named after him. Not sure they know to celebrate today. They should take five from whatever they're doing and maybe pay attention.

@bytebro@mastodonapp.uk 2025-05-04 20:01
@ryan I've always loved my music, and I remember in my teens being literally stopped in my tracks the first time I hear that. 5:4 beat blew me away.
-
@alphao@mastodon.world 2025-05-04 20:17
@ryan take 5 👍
-
@icastico@c.im 2025-05-04 20:19
@ryan But Take Five is a Paul Desmond composition
-
@PalmAndNeedle@norden.social 2025-05-04 20:20
@ryan Since when is Brubeck *not* nerdy?
-
@sergio_250501@mastodon.social 2025-05-04 20:21
@ryan you didn't steal this nerdy day outside the US, but you gained my sympathy. I'll save the 5th of April in my calendar though :)
-
@jasonpettus@mastodon.social 2025-05-04 21:48
@ryan A true fan knows that Dave Brubeck Day is actually 9/8 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j9GgmGLPbWU
-
@static@aus.social 2025-05-05 00:12
@ryan Should be Paul Desmond as he wrote most of the music.
-
@ErickaSimone@mastodon.social 2025-05-05 00:27

@plinth@infosec.exchange 2025-05-05 00:35
@ryan trivia: Take 5 and the original theme from Mission Impossible are both in 5/4 and follow very similar chord progressions so that you can play one over the other or alternate phrases (aka, Take Impossible or Mission 5)

@ryan What a wonderful Idea!
-
@ArchaeoIain@archaeo.social 2025-06-16 07:46
@ryan Glad there is something special about the fifth of April.
-
@ArchaeoIain@archaeo.social 2025-10-24 01:09
@ryan Of course we may never know whether that is the fifth of April, as it should be or the 4th of May which it could be. I mean, the US is the only country in the world which celebrates its national day of the 4th of July on July 4th.
