All signs pointing to a violent mess should the Dems perform as expected in the midterms. President Donald J. Skidmark-Rapist cannot abide criticism, even via democratic voting, and no lie is too big to tell, no weapon too big to fire at his own populace, should his frail snowflake ego feel threatened. #uspol #politics #trump #epstein 14-day gift read https://www.theatlantic.com/politics/2026/09/trump-midterms-2026/688716/?gift=rMst1BY9gP1HWgkOEVmAKyZSqmE2HYv-iemVltTIDCo&utm_source=copy...

Lets get real. For starters, anything 'disposable' should be illegal. And the marketing of disposability as a 'feature' should be a crime punishable by death. Because that's what the flesh dripping ghouls profiting on deliberately-designed waste are doing to humanity. Burn them. Hang them. Tar and feather them. An example has to be made. Before they make one of us, the first species to knowingly hasten its own extinction. #environment #climate #climatechange...

Here's a handy 'how it works' item on the demise of planet Earth. It's truly shocking our government is actively turning away from a desperately needed conversation around our use of fossil fuels. Sick, in fact. https://www.cbc.ca/news/science/pyrocumulonimbus-explainer-9.7287545 #climatechange #environment

A huge (but little-reported) stat: 'In the particularly bad stretch from 2023 to 2025, some 8 percent of Canada’s forests burned' One wonders what the figure is after this summer's infernos. As the item points out, the issue is not just destruction and smoke -- before burning these forests 'act as massive vaults for carbon [...and] have become their own notable source of greenhouse gases' 14-day gift read https://www.theatlantic.com/science/2026/07/canadian-forests-are-...

Just finished this one. A couple of factual inaccuracies (no, 'G' in physics does not mean 100 times your weight - it is earth's gravitational constant 'g' in this context, and yes, chimps do actually teach one another), plus some idiocy no fault of the author (chimps don't understand 'zero' dear researchers, true, but neither did humans until a millennium or so ago)... But overall, a well-researched informative read - highly recommend. #science #nature #liter...

Kids, old guy who's gonna croak way before you (if Mother Nature cuts you a break), here to say: 1. Never was I denied the privilege of going outside to play as a kid because the air was shit. 2. Most of our consumer crap is unnecessary, oversized, energy-greedy, colossally wasteful shit. 3. Advertising is 99.999% lies designed to feed your primal impulses with zero regard for anyone else. 4. #climatechange is real. 5. Your parents/ teachers are ghouls if they've not been telling yo...

35.1 C in Stratford, Ontario, Canada 1830h UTC. From when I visited this place regularly decades ago as a student, I recall zero 3-4 day stretches of such weather. Meanwhile, our PM coddles an-oil-industry-intoxicated Alberta toward adding a million barrels a day to our contribution. To an atmosphere so thin, it looks like a lightly drawn pencil-line from space -- our last shield against death by radiation. https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/alberta-bc-oil-pipeline-9.7253528 #w...

Here's a place in Southwest Ontario hosting tribute bands for those of longer aged vintages. Anything from swing to near-contemporary (meaning the 90's and early-aughts). I've seen one show: commendable, if workmanlike, periodically corny, touching, and, therefore, inevitably formulaic, if well-organized. I didn't not enjoy it. Think Eagles or Billy Joel and picture a country Saturday afternoon tribute crowd. Bet I don't need to write another word. #music #ontario #can...

Small steps: Recently, I moved from VS Code to VS Codium (same app sans Microsoft surveillance - see https://vscodium.com/). This morning, I migrated from github to Codeberg (https://codeberg.org/), integrating the latter with VS Codium (this move negating MS github surveillance). With minor issues resolved (mostly due to my own noobness with all this stuff), all good. Fellow coders: PM if you'd like details - happy to help if able. @pluralistic #linux #tech #vscode #github #codeb...

This is such a cunning, shameless, beautiful scam. Got an email from Equifax (who exposed zillions of records to hackers not long ago if memory serves), the gist of which was: 'Nice credit rating you got there. Be a shame if something happened to it...' I took the bait and logged in. The images tell the story. It's a sublime shakedown. @pluralistic #economics #equifax #security #tech

Meanwhile housing development for the well-heeled continues apace (on cheaply acquired farmland made easy to grab as a reward to Doug's developer donors) and Ford himself still talks of throwing billions into a hole so we and our petro-guzzling fleet of personal vehicles can enjoy traffic jams and MVA's in a 25-mile tunnel under the current 12-lane cross-city highway 401. Any FOI scrutiny having this week been defenestrated. https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/ontario-hospit...

Why in eff won't Firefox present mastodon images in-line with my VPN on, yet I can copy the image links from the panes in the failing tab to a new tab in the same browser instance and see them fine, no change to VPN status? Anyone know how to fix this? Or is it some mastodon client or server config issue? I'm simply visiting mastodon.online via browser at present. VPN off it's no problem, but that's not what VPN's are for, if I may mangle the aphorism...

Imagine the pretzels into which the Ontario government's procurement staff would have had to twist themselves to help Ford buy his $30M luxury Challenger jet. Or the conversation at Cabinet, assuming its approval was even sought. No wonder our former high school hash dealer premier is doing his damnedest to bind and gag FOI and dump it in the cargo hold for his corrupt administration. But hey, trans kids and bike lanes are our biggest problems, right? #onpoli #trumpminime #aviation...

This one's worth a re-post. A longish read, but useful in placing Carney's recent comments in perspective. 'Winston Churchill [...]: “The League did not fail because of its principles or conceptions. It failed because those principles were deserted by those states which brought it into being, because the governments of those states feared to face the facts and act while time remained.”' thetyee.ca/Analysis/2026/03/23/Carney-Defeatist-Dismissal-International-La...
