  At Bluesky, someone commented that the transgender populace of the u.s. is too small to worry about when considering political actions to oppose the rise of fascism in the united states. People pointed out that the total populace of Jews in Germany just before the rise of the Nazi regime was *less* than the 1% of the u.s. populace that is generally reported to be transgender. They're right. Germany's Jewish populace stood at 0.8% before fascism started its genocide.

  Yes, the average usian is skeptical of war, at this point. That's because they watched over a decade and a half of this country having its ass handed to it with little to show for it. It's hard to want more war with so many bodies piling up and no stars and stripes glory comes out of the loss. Eventually people lose their war lust after pounding their collective heads against the wall long enough. Not the politicians of course, but others do.

  I think it's rather hard to get a bigoted person to see the targets of their hatred and prejudice as being fully human and deserving of empathy and equality. I certainly tried with my ex-family and ex-friends from my hometown across the years. But what you can do is increase the social consequences for bigotry and shame and shun them into silence. I don't think we will ever be able to get people like this to relinquish their stubborn cruelty but we can make them afraid to express that...

  Centrists want a little bit of oppression and state violence, as a treat. Just enough to keep those unruly minorities and queers in line... To keep you feeling safe and to allow you to feel like your kids won't be groomed by cross-dressing weirdos or threatened by brown people on the way to the bus stop.   No, it's not new. The Democratic party and their talking heads have been chasing conservative white voters for well over 30 years. The only difference is that the spin shifted from "middle class" to "working class" to reflect the overall downward mobility of u.s. society as a whole. The Dem Party has always missed their pre-1960s days when their party included Southern Democrats, the rabid white racists and segregationists who migrated to the GOP after that decade.
