Hmmm. It's a great time to either switch to Linux, or if you know people using Windows, to maybe give them an introduction. I don't feel like there's an argument against it, since even twenty years ago, I was able to help my mom to use a linux system quite proficiently and she's never been super tech savvy. Since then, it's only become easier to run, prettier to look at, and more sensible in its defaults. Besides, messing around with linux stuff is an ex...

Does anyone else sing sea shanties when you're doing home plumbing? No? Just me. Oh.

I've been slowly trying to get back into the swing of being physically active. It's been some years since I've done so. Right now, it seems that practicing patience with myself is much more important than building endurance. It's okay to not be able to do the things that I used to be able to do, even though it is sometimes frustrating.

I haven't always had the easiest time figuring out what to say on the fediverse but with the world being what it is right now, I really appreciate this place's existence.

There are no "centrists" in America that were put off from policies due to "woke 1.0". There are racists who wanted to see the race-based hierarchy reinforced back to the pre-Civil Rights Act standards - in other words a return to Jim Crow. I've been discouraged to see a lot of folks who are ostensibly socialists, like AOC, thinking that they'll be able to win over people by, even rhetorically, siding against civil rights. Socialism in America...

I never knew hell until I saw AI generated food. Why would any restaurant do this to itself? It looks like something out of a horror movie. The entire menu should be CW'd. If you know anyone that's doing this, please let them know that they don't have to do this. Cameras exist. I don't care how bad the photography is. Real pictures of actual food doesn't trigger my pattern recognition fueled trypophobia.

I think that macOS Golden Gate was the first time that I had an immediate increase in stability when running a first release of a public beta. This really says a lot about how *bad* macOS Tahoe actually was. From the look and feel to the stability, I just feel like Tahoe was one of the worst releases of an OS that they've ever made. It's at the point where I want to be clear that I'm not giving them credit for Golden Gate being more stable. It should have been like this...

If you like dinosaurs and management sim games, Jurassic World Evolution 2 is on sale on steam right now with 75% off. This is not an ad, I've just got that flavor of autistic and I want to share the love, lol.

Welp, it has been a little over one year since my partner first tried linux after a lifetime of windows use (and once telling me that she would definitely never be a linux person). I'm pleased to say that not only is she still using linux, but she has also developed such things as "distro preferences" and "knowledge of terminal commands". Originally she was going to dual boot, but recently eliminated windows entirely to save drive space for more linux stuff, lol. I'...

So, I've had a t-rex figurine on a shelf above my desk for the last year or so. Earlier today, with absolutely no warning, it fell down, did a barrel roll, and landed on its feet directly in front of my keyboard, looking right at me. I applauded. I feel like this is a sign, but I'm not sure of what.

Folks that have left the U.S., when did you know it was time to leave? Anything you wish you would have known? How do you feel about it now? Speaking for where I am now, I know the grass is not greener on the other side, but I also feel like sometimes it is about finding grass that works better for my footwear. Anyways, I'm thinking about some major life decisions, and I would be thankful for any feedback that might be provided. Feel free to send me a direct message if you would like...

It's interesting to me that more and more black femme-presenting people are getting pushed out of their careers and having to make their own way with some kind of self-employment. At first it's like, yeah, fuck that corporate shit! But, then it's like. Well, wait a minute. This isn't a just empowerment. Yes. It is, on one side, a story of resilience and endurance. However, on the other side, it's a story of oppressive conditions and the oppressors that h...

I think it's time for folks to learn how to self-host again and to spread the hobby around. The web should be unruly and insubordinate. Centralization and the pursuit of convenience is killing the internet.

Hello all, just a reminder that it's okay to unplug from the news for a while if things are getting you down and you're worn out. Don't feel guilty about it, either - resting is required The revolution will not only not be televised, but it will take some time to assemble, so save your strength for when its time, get as much rest as you can. Remember that you can't help others if you have collapsed from the strain of exposure. This will be a journey and enduran...
