Do I need to build an online identity? Can't I just be an abstract concept on the internet? Maybe I'm a summer breeze in the southern hemisphere? Maybe I'm a ray of light escaping a candle in a dark room? Maybe I'm a dog?

I'm definitely an anarchist tho

@kasdeya I wish the internet was still simple enough that everything could be viewed in w3m, or at least that websites have a "simple view that still works" version that loads fast and does not track you

@kasdeya I liked "queer" as a general label better because I like the idea of destroying the idea of gender boundaries itself, but your argument is so good! Like, if saying everyone you support is the *default*, then bigotry shines by omission. I'm glad open support has become the default in the LGBTQIA+ community. Also, I'm crawling your archive. Can I crawl your archive? I like your archive! I've learned so much!

@rowan @kasdeya my first thought was "it's cool how they paced their github commit history to be shaped like a crossbow"

@kasdeya I just watched andor season 1 and it is beyond awesome! Not much science or fiction or fantasy though, beyond the basic fact that they are in space. More like some very well executed classic story structures (a man hunt, a heist, and a prison break). Also cool looking ships, I guess. I'm generally not moved by how pretty things look? If it does not have a good emotional arc, I'm not invested in it

@kasdeya what? You make thoughtful, well written posts about interesting topics. How could I *not* be interested!

@kasdeya Yeah, it is precisely about fighting fascism. And there are several genuinely enraging moments, especially so because it is exactly the kind of violence and injustice that happens in real life. I'm mostly disconnected from the horrors of modern life, so I have mental space for angst in my entertainment. The main reason I watched it, tho, is because hakan geijer wrote a zine about real life security culture practices based on the show, and I really want to learn more about that,...

@kasdeya Something that might also be happening is that it's much harder to fill in a gap than to name things that are there. To fill in a gap, you need to know all the things that could go into the gap, and choose the one that fits best. That requires a *lot* of knowledge and searching. That's what "I don't know why I don't like this" is: something is missing, and searching for it is very hard. But to know why you like something, it is just a l...

@GeePawHill @courtcan Hydrosmith concerts, on the other hand, were never popular. People described them as a "wet towel" and an "ice cold bath"

@Remittancegirl It's not about safety. It is about taking security away from the communitie's hands, so they become scared and dependent on police, and so they stop being communities

I found the other day a toot that said something like: "I don't want to become more conservative with age. When, in the year 2169, uplifted orcas are protesting for the right to marry their clones, I hope to be right along with them". The thought is a masterpiece by itself, but it makes some assumptions that I want to explore. It assumes that there are some privileges, called rights, that are granted by some powerful institution that controls society (the state), and...

#DrFatima published an awesome essay on Feyerabend's "against method" and I got thoughts now. Her talk about heliocentrism vs geocentrism assumes that the two theories were in competition with each other. Which they were. But this "competition between theories" does not need to become a "competition between scientists". Heliocentrism did not have good arguments going for it when Galileo kept defending it, but if the only goal was to...
