i remember watching computerphile one day many moons ago; the man on the screen was telling me they used to view C as like easy mode, and for stupid lazy people, because Real Men code in assembly. there were people in the comments observing that C is now the hard language and speculating that, moons into the future, Python by hand would be the peak of expertise. they were laughing then, but are they laughing now?

the ethical argument against "ai" sits in the same part of my brain as the ethical argument against batteries. there is evil to be found around most tech and i dont think the evil of the ape is anything special because, well, i dont think the ape is this fucking special! i dont want to rot my brain, i dont want to make myself dependent on a big "ai" lab, but within those qualifiers i would totally run a local model even just to get in the guts of how it works. i *do* want to...

tl;dr: hes claiming the ape left more prompts for itself on the open internet like what it did with the "message board" and while that might be true idk how important that is when human being are also planting prompt injections around the open web for fun https://www.comicsands.com/yang-openai-bots-polluted-internet

i think the saddest thing with the ai hype is the most powerful people in my traditional institutions all seem to believe it one way or the other. bernie sanders is terrified of "superintelligence" and i used to remember him being the only politician who seemed like he was grounded in truth.

so the space needle shooting: 2 shooters known, 1 said "i love you bro" to the other as he was dying supposedly so safe to assume they werent shooting at each other, so there are other people out there. also, the other people out there evidently escaped under their own power so they were probably either uninjured or not as severely injured, and given how violence and shootouts work that probably means they actually shot first and like, were actually the people who looked at two teenage...

RE: https://scicomm.xyz/@dantheclamman/116954518144682511 i wonder if this just kills the credibility of digital in general as being in any way "real" because its _all_ just shit from a sensor going through an algorithm at the end of the day. and we can walk around with polaroids and get hit by cars listening to walkmans instead of icky texting, like our forefathers.
