There's one reason I've lost all respect for Christopher Nolan: In the scene where Odysseus kills everyone, he's supposed to be completely nude, his beautiful godlike body on display. Where the hell is your courage, director?

I cannot get behind the idea that kids need to be reading things in school from topics tailored to their interests. That's what they should be reading outside of school. You have the entire rest of your life to read whatever you want.

Christ I forgot why I hate high school athletics. Just watched our football team get crushed 20-0 at the half by a bunch of kids half a head taller than them. There's no way this could be fun for anybody

We've decided that public job postings are more or less unusable now, because they just get flooded with AI applications. So, get #FediHired - US remote senior engineer position on my team. Full stack haskell+typescript working on practice products for k-12 students, salary range 100-150. Happy to chat or get on a phone call to discuss.

The dream is that you're a company following commonly accepted practices that aspires to be more innovative, but the reality is usually more like you're a company with a combination of bespoke and outdated practices that aspires to be more normal

I don't understand the racial aspect of birth rate discourse at all. If there are places that systematically people into move into to get a job and then never have a family, doesn't that mean the place is a bad place, that the city is a humanity crusher where people aren't thriving and living full lives? Isn't it bad for the surrounding country, to have children only to throw them into the meat grinder of a nyc?

Somebody once called this the Martin anti-establishment reflex, but being immersed in all the complaints on here (some of which are quite over the top) has turned me into a claude code defender and that is not a position I ever wanted to find myself in

Apparently it is possible for a person to go half their life seeing various medical professionals, including a physical therapist, without a single one of them ever noticing that the patient has normal balance but cannot stand unsupported with their eyes closed, an observation which takes about fifteen seconds to test and is by itself 90% of the way to a diagnosis for a treatable condition that results in a debilitating complex of consequences

There's a lot I like about the show Alone, but honestly it's probably the closest thing to Squid Game that exists in real life. The last few contestants on every season are always literally starving and not quitting until they're about to die, and at times talking about how it's so awful but they desperately need the prize money

It's not unusual for people to become so enraptured with a technology, like electricity, that we become immediately willing to destroy all sorts of shit with massive projects for it

I wish people would stop using the word "epstein" to mince words about the president's sexual abuse

Part of the problem with the incentives about how to write in essays and stuff I guess is that if you explain anything, it seems you're perceived as mincing words, as not taking a hard enough stance. People love the "real talk, come right out with it, guns blazing" but what it actually means is just opening with a page full of contentless vague positioning

the convenience of LLM interactions has made me utterly unwilling to deal with everybody's software's petty bullshit anymore. oh you wanted me to type "OPTIONS_GHC" instead of "GHC_OPTIONS"? Fuck you, just understand it!
