We want the (good) funk...gotta have that funk Swiss cheese, olives, salami, vanilla, beer, chocolate, yoghurt, coffee....all delicious and all possible because of fermentation. If you're into getting fizzy with it, this week's food column is about fermented foods and how to get into ferments at home! #WaterlooRegion #Fermentation #Guelph #KWFoodies #Cooking 📸 Escarpment Labs/Unsplash https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/kitchener-waterloo/wine-yogurt-and-cheese-exploring-the-world-of-f...

Cardamummy just got a wheeled walker (she's of the age where a walking stick isn't enough) and went for a little walk to test it out. Apparently, a woman of a certain age, wobbling around with a metallic pink walker was far too much for a neighbour's micro dog who hid behind their car.

Sigh. Rufus' test results came in. Lymphoma. Like his brother who passed in July. Waiting to hear if it's large cell or small (my vet thinks small, but is waiting for the specialist report). Definite maldigestion and malabsorption of nutrients. He's bouncing around, screaming for food and still a cuddle monster. And still hates being smoochiefaced.

I realised the post I sent out re Nigel didn't get here... A few days before my surgery (~6 weeks ago) I had to make a final appointment (large cell lymphoma) for him. It was the right decision. He was a lovely, lovely boy and I miss him terribly. Rufus, his brother and littermate, is still in mourning, sleeping in Nigel's bucket (where N curled up in his last days), miaoing more, and spending all of what would have been his N cuddle time with me or The Lodger. #CatsOfMastodon

We're super lucky to be surrounded by productive, fertile land, and that local chefs and farmers forge relationships. But there are a handful of local restaurants for whom farm to table means growing some of the ingredients they cook with. #Food #EatLocal #WaterlooRegion #PerthCounty #FarmToTable https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/kitchener-waterloo/farm-to-table-willibald-farm-brian-mccourt-d-d-s-smoked-eats-denis-hernandez-graze-farm-dinners-9.7274068

It's pick-your-own season. Happy Canada Day! The Indigenous flag was designed by artist Curtis Wilson (d 2019). The renowned artist was born and raised in the Ligwilda’xw territories and he was a member of the Wei Wai Kum First Nation in Campbell River. ""Every day is a learning experience we must do our best to pass on the knowledge to our future generations." ~ Curtis Wilson #Canada #CanadaDay #FirstNations #IndigenousPeople #AltText

No food column this week -- I was felled by a blargh (and still sound like a 70yo smoker who's been lighting up for 80 years). Here's one my nurses, who still thinks I should be horizontal...as it's easier to keep an eye on me (and use me as a pillow) Back next week, talking about tasty things.

RIP Stephen Lewis I had the honour* of listening to him speak and meeting him years ago, when he came to Waterloo on a book tour. An absolutely lovely man, and an amazing orator, who did so much for Canada. *I rarely use the word "honour", but in this case, it was. https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/stephen-lewis-obituary-9.7148606

Should have made hot cross buns yesterday, but my bad mood was very apparent in the dough (didn’t bother baking them). Awoke in a better mood, and this is the result. Best I’ve made yet. Tangzhong method. Maple-orange glaze #Food #Baking #Easter #InMyKitchen
