We (A&A) have added to the text of the autoreponse that is sent when a new sales or support ticket is opened. I don’t think most people will read it, but we will see. We have surprisingly already had at least one positive response to it. It would be improper not to acknowledge the influence the blog of @beasts@social.mythic-beasts.com had on this action, and text.

Tell a lawyer that a document was signed on one date but actually dated on another date entirely, and a frown is the best you can hope for. Unless they are a conveyancing lawyer in which case they encourage that every day. It feels quite odd that the financially largest purchase most of us will ever make usually rests on a document signed in a way that would usually be unacceptable.

I have noticed an increase in the number of emails A&A is getting from "new potential customers" where it is slightly clear their enquiry has been partially, or entirely written by (badly prompted) AI. As a result of this, when we get back to them sometimes the whole idea has changed, or they paste our reply into AI and then paste back AI's reply to us. So far, 100% of these have been a complete waste of time.

I grew up in the era of writing letters. And once email arrived, I treated it, and still do treat it, largely as a digital medium for the same shape of communication. I (think I; say if I'm wrong) notice a trend amongst the young - I'm talking late teens into twenties - where their frame of reference was SMS, or another form of IM. As such, even when some of them email, they will write one short sentence, send it. Get a reply, send another single sentence. Has anybody else noticed t...

We live in an idiotic and reactionary age, don't we? Most recently, a kid sadly drowned. And now a (shockingly large) group of parents is campaigning for 6ft high fences to be erected around EVERY body of water in the UK. I had to double check it wasn't some really dark satire. But no. That's what they are campaigning for. Fuck the wildlife. Fuck the aesthetics. Fuck the practicalities or costs. Fuck the idea of responsible adults, oh, I don't know, "supervising children...

Hmm logged back into my mastodon server just to see all was OK and I'm back up to 77% disk full (whereas I am sure when I left it it was around 60%). Journalctl shows only 257MB. I've rerun all the cleanup scripts again, and am just rerunning prune-profiles manually to see if that knocks it back down.... weird. Wonder why my mastodon is chewing up so much disk constantly.

It is wild that this case trundled so far. But not wild that the costs were what they were. https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/steve-karen-gibson-thundersley-essex-b3026251.html It seems insane that the losers of this case seemed to be almost comical and gleeful earlier in it. I suspect glee is far from what they are feeling now, with (apparently) £120k+ of lawyers bills to pay. It'd be ironic if they had to sell their house, and the winners elected to buy it, neatly and fi...

After running my car down from 100% charged to (iirc) 16%, the regen percentage is In, and it’s more than I would have thought. My car’s battery is 84kWh (unsure if net or gross). 26.4/84 equals about 31%. So regen contributed about a third, almost, to my car’s useful range. Wow.

Most people are aware of the shortages in components; particularly high speed RAM; caused by the demands of AI companies. I think a smaller number of people are aware of basic raw material supply issues also being caused by the same. FR4 - the material PCBs are made from is reportedly in shortened supply, leading to less CCL (copper clad laminate). This hits EVERYONE who makes electronics. Some reports show a monthly supply gap of 8 million square metres of this stuff.

We have recently started using a small green "food waste only" bin. The nifty bit about this thing is it is collected weekly; both with recycling and with general waste. It really does increase "rubbish capacity". If you have one, and you've not used it, or if your council will give you one, and it works the same way (food waste every week, recycling and general every other) give it a try.

We are getting a hose pipe ban here. The only thing I use my hose pipe for... is filling up the water feature that the birds in my garden drink from and bathe in. So the fucking cunts who can't stop leaks from their shitty underinvested pipeworks, and pour shit in our local rivers, now have legal mandate to dehydrate birds too. And if I dare to use my hosepipe to save these gasping birds, I am a criminal. Not they. Me. 1/2

I think one of the most awesome and "new" things most people overlook about EVs is regenerative braking; in particular JUST how much energy gets recovered. I am mid way through a fully charged battery (100%, rare; I had one longish journey to do). I have 56% left (est. 137 miles) and the car's monitor shows I have already regenerated over 10kWh. Given the battery is 84kWh (unsure if that's net or gross) that means that we may be on course for something like +25% extra range...

Yesterday an old friend let me know his .co.uk domain had expired. His domain had been with BT and then apparently BT sold their domain business to NetworkSolutions. So it had moved to Network Solutions without him knowing it. He last renewed it for ten years... ten years ago. Could I help? Well I made some enquiries. Nominet were able to tell me the name on the domain, and it was not his name or his company name BUT the name of the web company who did his first website in the late 90s. 1/n

I did a thing over the weekend. Quite a faff to set it all up BUT speaking from personal experience, flying a C152 in MSFS24 with VR and yoke/pedals is almost ridiculously similar to the real thing in a real aircraft. I am really fairly impressed with Meta Quest 3 VR. And the best bit is, I traded an old point-and-shoot camera I’d not used in 5 years so only had to pay £47 to CEX in money for the headset. Win.

I actually saw Ann Widdecombe live and in person many years ago when she took part in a debate. The debate’s motion was “The Catholic Church is a Force For Good”. She and Archbishop of Abuja, Nigeria John Onaiyekan were “for”. Christopher Hitchens and Stephen Fry were arguing “against”. 1/n
