Tell a lawyer that a document was signed on one date but actually dated on another date entirely, and a frown is the best you can hope for.
Unless they are a conveyancing lawyer in which case they encourage that every day.
It feels quite odd that the financially largest purchase most of us will ever make usually rests on a document signed in a way that would usually be unacceptable.

Every single time I’ve transacted a property they have said “sign, but don’t date *here* , *here* , *here*” etc, the idea being that they then add the dates later, to suit the transaction. What a weird thing! The date is SUPPOSED to be the date you actually signed it, by any other convention. Is there an explicit law that prevents what might otherwise be (almost) a kind of fraud?
