5 star rating system is broken by design. This is the stuff #Airbnb hosts have to deal with. Message from my host basically begging to not nuke them down in this nonsensical thing.

Is there a “trust chain” standard defined for the open web? 1) User says to trust institutions X, Y and Z. Institution can be also statically defined list. 2) User chooses trust strategy (fail fast, trust fast, priority, etc.). 3) OS checks for each domain visited what would be the advice for given domain, institutions and strategies. And reflects accordingly (warning, block, green checkmark, etc.). 4) Each institution is also user.

#EmberFest 2026 and is about to start 🚀

My #EmberFest talk is titled “4207 days of uptime” and I forgot why the heck such a specific number? Like when did I even fill in the CFP? Went through commit history to figure it out. Found out that it’s the diff of the dates from (essentially) the first commit until the exact day of the conference. Smart-ass past me 🤓

Personal opinion: Nowadays it’s extremely rude to try to call someone, let their phone with missed call and NOT to send them a quick message with tl;dr of what you wanted. Maybe it’s just the Millenial in me, but a missed call will cause panic and lack of explanatory message will make the panic go to overdrive.

Did I say before that this will happen? Yup. Do I still internally scream that this is a thing? Also yup. Does that provide me a tremendous value? Triple yup. Am I just silently hoping that someone will come up with principal solution instead of those monkey patches? 🙏🙏🙏 #ClaudeCode #AI #Coding

“I don’t want computer to do my work for me” is a really weird thing to say. It is, very much, why we invented computers in the first place. We just got used to them being a mere tool and very rarely a remote glimpse of a solution.

There is something to be said about conditioning and data liberation wrt/ this exchange. Platforms conditioned people to think that the companies own the data and that there is nothing a person can be done about it. Maybe solvable by paying some data-ransom. It can be either by design [plug any big-enough corp here] or by crappy #UX like in the case of #Strava here.

If you've been wanting to move your activity history from Strava to FitPub but dreaded dealing with the export files, I made a small browser tool that does the heavy lifting. Drop in your Strava export files, it decompresses the .fit.gz files, splits everything into correctly-sized ZIP batches, and hands them back for upload. No install, no server, runs entirely in your browser. 👉 🏃🏻♀️ https://vast-ch.github.io/strava-archive-to-fitpub-batch-import/ #FitPub #Strava #ActivityPub #Fediverse #O...

In case you were not aware: Sharing routes from #strava with non strava users is not possible. They will not let you view the route, download #GPX, edit (a copy), nothing. The only flow allowed is to register to do even the most basic things. So please before sharing, make sure that the other person actually has strava account. Or use any other service that does not put basic things behind login. #Locus #LocusMap

There is this funny “language blindness” happening in my head: Since I’ve been using English more than my mother tongue (#Czech) for years now, I can’t tell which language I’ve used in conversations with fluently #English speaking people from my country. It just doesn’t register - language used is not part of a memory. Just that the information was passed over. Anyone else having this?

@Lazarou@mastodon.social To be fair: Some people do work in analytics departments, but are forbid to come with “number go down” news, so in many cases stats are “enhanced” or “interpreted” in a way that makes it look nice.

@adhdjesse Curious. Last year I’ve been diagnosed with mild version of #ADHD and this description is as far from me as possible. I do overfocus on [new thing], buuuut then it takes immense amounts to jump on actually spending money and hoarding things. So usually I rather not start at all.

One of my explanations for confused out-of-principle #AI haters from #IT on why are those technologies so popular is: For decades elitistic IT offered half baked solutions and heaps of tools piling over each other. Nobody* wants tools. People want to solve their problems. Does Excel solve your problem with taxes? With that fancy template? Not even an inch, it’s just a tool. A tool user needs to learn, understand and use well. LLMs can give you good-enough solution. And it mostly fits.

I wonder if there is an image format useable for "streaming progressive enhancement": - Image file can be cropped at any point from beginning to Nth byte and the image could be displayed with _some_ level of representation of the _entire_ image - The more of image data is preserved, the more sharp/detailed/precise the image can be rendered This could have an amazing application as images for websites would not have to be downscaled and cached. Clients would just load &quo...

Acro Adventure Week – Niouc 16–19 June 2026 I have a ticket for sale (discounted). I went last year and it was really good – small community vibe, lots of acro, handstands, slackline/highline, yoga, Thai massage, and camping by the Niouc bridge. Unfortunately I can’t make it this year, so I’d rather someone else use it. Details: https://slacktivity.ch/shop/acro-adventure-week/ DM me if interested. #AcroAdventureWeek #Niouc #Slackline #Highline #AcroYoga #Handstands #Valais #Switzerland #Ou...

I love having *every* contact in my address book. So that I can see avatar whenever I get an email. It is IMO only logical to have support for wildcards in email/phone contact matching. Sadly, likely because nobody cares and nobody can imagine better ways, this is not possible. But that does not mean people don't want it. https://www.reddit.com/r/iphone/comments/10ry7dk/partial_or_wildcard_contacts/

I shiver every time the (typically) US media stress that [a bad thing] was done to US citizen/veteran/single mum of three/celebrity/… Not because of the heinous act that was done to the person. But because somehow it’s worse when a bad thing happens to “lovable” person. No it’s effing not. I don’t care if it’s a drug addict, homeless person or convicted felon (just stereotypical examples). Horrible things should not be done to them either. Period.

Big corp doesn't want you to know this, but: Having a Dockerfile says nothing about reproducibility of your builds. It's better than nothing, but imagine you have to bet your left pinky of your kid on whether rebuild produces the same image. You would (should!) have a pause and say "prooooobably not".
