10 min Yes, you could say that the weather is always changing. /s The implication from climate skeptics was, of course that “weather” was just par for the course, and therefore not necessarily worthy of any concern. They think they won something by being that way. I just look at them after a tornado or flood or hurricane has ripped away everything they ever cared about, and say OK so the weather changed. It’s perfectly normal so enjoy your day. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=mZ-7XfIPFIk #cli...

Isn’t it cool that the United States dug up and destroyed all of its light rail and railroad lines and replace them with diesel fuel trucks of all kinds trucks buses whatever? Because a great thing about rail line says it’s not that hard to electrify them and insulate yourself from things like fossil fuel costs. The deepest insulation is workability and local food, production, and local business

@MLNow@sfba.social I’ve been seeing advertisement for proposition H on YouTube and notably, Anthropic, OpenAI, and Ripple Labs have each donated a half million dollars to the pro prop H campaign. I think there’s something fishy about that. They may be throwing money at something that’s necessary in order to promote goodwill to them, but all of them are “gray” team sovereign, individual anti-democracy and fascist groups. I don’t know what to make of the proposition yet #sanfrancisco

15 min The discussion with an (ex)employee of Kickstarter and some of the drama going on with the executive staff tried to shut down Kickstarter about punching Nazis. It’s one more demonstration that the employees in the community are what keeps atrocity from happening. People defend principles or at least they do so much more than the people in power. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=nVXLHl_7hOM

8 min I seem to remember from a few days ago, comparison between data centers based on gigabytes, both existing and planned for a dozen countries. By every measure, the United States is completely off the scale compared to any other country, including China (a proportion that is reminiscent of military spending). I think I can find the image because I bookmarked it, but I’d like you to ask yourself if there’s such a thing as market efficiency https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=6xQ8LQfkBg4

I think the same thing could be said about the United States. The US military has its limits. The leadership is one of them.

RE: https://mastodon.social/@arstechnica/117276415014240034 It’s not it’s the surveillance industry. There are other companies like Axon who are even worse. The surveillance must be outlawed with privacy laws that also snare things like those godforsaken LG smart TVs, as well as all the surveillance electronics flooding into our lives

Now I’m linking to Reason based on watching video of critique of the legislation being passed against flock specifically. There’s an important point about this that even progressive politicians aren’t proposing the kind of legislation we need: privacy laws. We need laws to outlaw surveillance of all kinds, and especially this reduce ridiculous age verification invasion of privacy. https://reason.com/2026/08/27/getting-rid-of-flock-isnt-enough-to-solve-americas-surveillance-problem/ #flock

Yes, something like that: “ While I’m not a lawyer, the numerous cybersecurity experts I’ve discussed this with are stunned by the complete lack of any legal action against OpenAI, which appears to have committed a crime that gets you anywhere from a year to a decade in the slammer. The fact that LLMs from both Anthropic and Meta have been involved in similar incidents is a sign that we need to arrest more people.” https://www.wheresyoured.at/ai-is-already-in-dangerous-hands/

39 min I’m not sure if I actually posted this before but, this frankly. You can always listen to through podcast. Nate discusses seven factors that lead to psychotic behavior. The question of whether humans are naughty or nice is answered by yes. Tyrannical behavior is kept in check or it is permitted by the community itself guided by the members’ ethical system. We all start by not tolerating psychopaths https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=8yK4ov4z-sI

Paul Krugman mentioning gas prices is well-intentioned I think, but the fuel price that matters the most is diesel because diesel transports all of our stuff. It runs a lot of equipment. Gas hurts driving cars diesel hurts absolutely everything
