#3GoodThings 1. I had lunch with a friend I see too rarely, and after lunch we went to her house and I taught her how to make kefir and gave her some of my kefir grains. 2. My husband was notified that he won a drawing he entered at a chocolate shop, and his prize is 2 8-ounce Dubai chocolate bars. 3. I tried a recipe for yeasted waffles over the weekend, they came out very crispy and good. The recipe makes enough for 6 waffles, so we had them for breakfast both Saturday and Sunday. We'l...

#3GoodThings 1. I received an email asking about an item I had ordered. The item arrived broken (shipped from the midwest, made of thin particle board, not packaged super well.) I replied with a description of the damage, and explained that I had glued the broken areas and that it is now functional, but that they might consider better packing materials for long-distance shipping. To my surprise, I received a new item last week, unbroken. It was kind of an expensive thing, so I was not expecti...

#3GoodThings 1. This morning my husband and I completed a challenging maintenance task. We needed to change 5 filters and clean a device. The instructions for this were written by someone who knows how to do the task so well they could do it with their eyes closed and at least one hand tied behind their back. Unfortunately, this writer of the instructions cannot conceive of others not having their level of expertise, they renamed one of the parts a fanciful name, using no descriptors (call it...

#3GoodThings 1. Our air quality has been in the "unhealthy" range this week, but the air purifier and my mask have been very helpful. I have a swim date tomorrow, and if it's still smoky, will spend the hour treading water with my mask on rather than actually swimming. 2. I had a 4-month check up with the surgeon who did some minor surgery in April. He says all is very good, and that I can have some testing/imaging done in a year, but nothing else is needed now. 3. I have read s...

#3GoodThings 1. I slept quite poorly last night, but was able to get a couple of cat-naps today, so had fair energy. 2. Yesterday I made a good size batch of a pasta salad, and some blackberry muffins, so food preparation today was minimal. 3. I usually sit outside after dark while my dogs are playing. Both last night and tonight, I became aware of a group of people singing, likely outside, to the east of my home. They may be practicing for a performance. I don't hear them clearly enough...

#3GoodThings 1. My husband has restored our internet after it was knocked out last night during a thunderstorm. 2. My dog Kali has developed a new approach to waking me when she wants to go out at night. Instead of barking loudly, she noses under my covers, locates my elbow and nudges til I wake up. (My other dog Tempi has the less successful approach of quietly walking over to my side, standing 6-8 inches away from me and wishing very hard.) 3. I get to go swimming this afternoon!

#3GoodThings 1. I woke up a little after 5 am, hearing my husband letting the dogs out. He told me of Graham's death and talked about that til I was quite awake, but I was able to get back to sleep for another hour. 2. A while back, I made a cryptic note in my schedule calendar (91) diamond and was puzzled by it for for several days this week. This morning I recalled what it was about. It was a reminder that that on that date, it will be 91 days since I put 2 40-lb bags of dog food (Di...

#3GoodThings 1. I had a really nice swim today with my friend Marilou. 2. I got an expensive prescription refilled today, and had 5 pills left over from the last refill. The pharmacy sometimes takes over a week for refills, so this might come in handy. 3. A neighbor put up a large Progress Pride flag this evening. I went out and thanked him for that, and we chatted a little. He recently moved into the household there, and I was glad to have an opportunity to talk with him for a few minutes.

#3GoodThings 1. It was rainy off and on all day. We need the rain. 2. I had a nice, if chilly, outdoor lunch with friends yesterday. 3. My husband is alive. He had a dangerously low hypoglycemic event last evening (low 20's when the paramedics tested his blood sugar). He was taken to the hospital emergency room, but I was able to bring him home around 2:30 AM, and he's been doing OK today.

#3GoodThings 1. We had foundation plants (azalea, nandina and rhododendron) cleared from the second side of our house this week. We'll get pea gravel put over the dirt later. (This is part of a long project to reduce fire danger to our house, given the warmer, drier summers we have these days.) 2. I finished reading Ann Patchett's new novel, _Whistler_, it is excellent. 3. Many of the lilies I transplanted in March are blooming or in bud.

#3GoodThings 1. My dwarf lily is blooming, vividly. 2. A local person asked me to test-bake a couple of recipes for a cookbook she is writing. I made the ginger cookies today, and they are delicious. (Oatmeal cake will be baked this weekend.) 3. Progress is being made on my goals of reducing fire hazard in my yard.

#3GoodThings 1. My husband's colonoscopy went well yesterday, we both survived the days of his clear liquid diet, the post-colonoscopy pizza dinner was good, and he can go 3 years til his next one. 2. Our primary ballots came yesterday, and I voted this morning. I didn't vote for one of the county commissioner positions, because all the candidates running seem to be rotters. There was nothing that made any of them look the tiniest bit better than the others. 3. An iris that go...

#3GoodThings 1. We saw the small rabbit currently living in our neighborhood yesterday and today. I'm hoping we see him/her tomorrow, it seems like a good portent to see the rabbit on Easter. 2. My winning streak at Hurdle was extended to 25 games (from 21). Now I get to try to extend it again - - feels like less pressure now that I'm starting over from zero. 3. Tempi has discovered that she likes being outside after dark, I think she may be hunting little critters. She will s...
