Ouch, I feel your pain.
Minidisc was/is so underrated.
For me it was a great stop gap tech between cassette to smartphone mp3. I bought 3 over about 5 years BITD. So much better than cassette, cheap blank discs, easy to dub/transfer music onto, gradual improvements with each new gen. I still have my three MInidisc Walkman and they all still worked when I check a year or so ago.

@raymierussell@mastodon.scot thanks, yeah I’m glad I checked it when I did! I never got into MD actually, this one was actually intended as a dictaphone for a family member but it’s never really been used. It has lots of cool (late-gen?) features I think (Hi-MD, ATRAC, etc). I’ll need to dig into it! Annoyingly I did check the batteries were out etc a couple of years ago, but the corrosion must have already started. Oh well! My uni flatmate was big into MD though, she commuted a lot by train back then so always had pocket full of mixes for the journey. Had an MD HiFi too. Very cool! 😎
