@raymierussell@mastodon.scot thanks, yeah I’m glad I checked it when I did! I never got into MD actually, this one was actually intended as a dictaphone for a family member but it’s never really been used. It has lots of cool (late-gen?) features I think (Hi-MD, ATRAC, etc). I’ll need to dig into it! Annoyingly I did check the batteries were out etc a couple of years ago, but the corrosion must have already started. Oh well! My uni flatmate was big into MD though, she commuted a lot by train back then so always had pocket full of mixes for the journey. Had an MD HiFi too. Very cool! 😎

    @noisetank@oldbytes.space The later gen MD's got proper sophisticated. You could store computers files as if it were a pen drive, along side your ATRAC music in the same disc. If you wanted to be Meta Ironic you could store MP3 files on it which it couldn't play back natively. I had a single 1 gigabyte disc which came with my last machine I purchased. Back then 1 gb was a mighty amount of storage. Fortunately all my other discs were backwardly compatible.
