  @MikeDunnAuthor@kolektiva.social This is the very reason that the relatively few "self made" "successful" people are often boosted as the norm and an achievable status by the Elite. They want to obscure how THEY got there by using the occasional "I grew up poor" successful person as cover for how they had all the privilege and it would be more difficult to be a fuck up in their world than a "success".

  I see Reform UK, the supposedly insurgent party in UK politics has failed badly in another major election. Labour were within a few percentage points of winning the Manchester Mayorality election outright on 1st choice votes (50% required) but easily won when 2nd choice votes were counted.

  Well that's a strange one. The Morrisons Supermarket about half a mile from my parents house had been thru 2 rounds of planning permission over about 5 years and eventually got planning permission for a McDonald's taking up about a third of the existing car parking space. It's been over a year a not a brick has been laid. All of a sudden the petrol station is shut to be extended and a Greggs added to it

  @jmaris@eupolicy.social @kde@floss.social I have just put a new internal battery and Mint OS onto a little laptop I don't use often but will get a bit of light use. It was WIN 8 when purchased and I officially upgraded to WIN 10 but no official WIN 11.

  @noisetank@oldbytes.space Ouch, I feel your pain. Minidisc was/is so underrated. For me it was a great stop gap tech between cassette to smartphone mp3. I bought 3 over about 5 years BITD. So much better than cassette, cheap blank discs, easy to dub/transfer music onto, gradual improvements with each new gen. I still have my three MInidisc Walkman and they all still worked when I check a year or so ago.

  Off to vote in the Scottish Parliament elections. For the uninitiated you can vote at age 16 and over, you get two votes. One vote is a first past the post constituency vote for a candidate and the second is for a Party (or independent candidate) from a regional list. Although not strictly PR, the system is designed give a more proportion outcome.   Lots of the AI products I have been seeing advertised seem to be sales tools, CRM's etc. The irony is that we are almost certainly heading for an historic economic crash due to the overhype of AI. Thats a lot less sales to make with your AI sprockle gromit uber sales maker.

  Scottish Parliament Elections take place on the 7th May 2026. Each voter gets two votes.   I haven't seen it, but SNL UK suffers from one fundamental problem and that is a paywall. I can't help but feel that to be a broad success it would need to be on a FTA terrestrial channel.   Maybe I am misunderstanding something but it seems to me that laws in various places which require age declarations for OS's are going to make all vintage machines with ROM based fixed OS's illegal in those locales. I cannot tell my ZX Spectrum my age so that it will only load age appropriate software when I use it.

  I lost a small sliver of tooth about 2 weeks before I was due for my regular checkup. It wasn't bothering me other than a roughness on my tongue when I touched it. So today was the big day. Turns out it was small piece of filling that I lost and I had forgotten was a filled tooth. It was fixed in 5 mins, no numbing needed. In a way I am glad it was an old filling rather than a bit of actual tooth that had gone bad. The rest of my mouth was fine.

  Since I started cycling a month ago after a 12 month hiatus I keep a keen eye on the weather, I am mostly looking at wind speeds. I have a full set of waterproofs so if it rains meh BUT wind is another level. Especially as the places I go locally are quite hilly.   Thing I miss about Twitter when it was less Nazi. Local council had/has a presence & one time tweeted a picture of a street light that had fallen to a 45 degree angle overhanging a path. It was acknowledged & dealt with. Today I want to complain about a terrible footbridge repair. There were lots of pot holes on it and it was painted up with arrows to show the holes.
