🧵 About 30% of American adults say they are unaffiliated with a religious tradition, but as people are rejecting ancient epistemic systems, many of us are struggling to find meaning from life, to take care of ourselves, and to develop ideas about minds and ethics.
That's a problem.
Having a #philosophy makes your daily life better. Secular people should have one.

Thinking about selfhood and ethics is not frippery. Having coherent thoughts about them makes your life better, and gives you strength during difficult times. If you do a lot of philosophy or literature reading, you certainly can develop your own thoughts about these things. But most people won't do that. While religion gets the larger questions wrong, it does get people thinking about important topics. https://plus.flux.community/p/non-religious-people-still-need-to
