RE: https://beige.party/@bkahn/117343891599668441 I worked with a Palestinian once and she said what she missed the most was hearing her language spoken. So I asked her to teach me how to say, "hi, how are you today," and when I showed up each morning, I would greet her in her language. You don't have to know an entire language to help immigrants feel more at home and learning is a wonderful part of life.

RE: https://shakedown.social/@AAronL1968/117338704391724101 With regards to the Epstein files, all is quiet on the GOP defying the court order to release them? Alt text: political cartoon of uncle Sam Yelling at Spanky, "Release the Epstein files!" Spanky, in return, holds up his middle finger.

When I was in high school (Canada), there were several programs for students to learn the other language and to visit other parts of Canada. I was lucky to have a biology teacher who knew about the class exchange program and used it as an opportunity to visit friends across the country who he wanted to see. Worked out. Does anyone know if this is still a thing? For that one, a class exchanged with another class. Part of it was covered, another part we had to fund raise for. I...

I hate modern journalism. You make it through a story and the best you come away with, maybe, was this thing happened. No explanation of why.

And there you have it: state-run news station. "the Trump administration has unveiled its own 24-hour television channel, called 'Trump TV'... The state-controlled media channel seems to broadcast a continuous stream of the Trump administration's "biggest moments all in one place"." And, lol: "The inaugural piece of content featured on America's new state-controlled media channel was a two-month-old address that Trump delivered at Mount Rushmore, back...

Oh, wow, this is huge. I was hoping media would band together in solidarity and now they are. I am so surprised Fox is participating. Ketchup will be flying! There is such an easy way to stop mass migration of immigrants: stop bombing their homes, stop interfering with internal politics, stop selling arms to those countries.

“Former prime minister Jean Chrétien had a message for 'our American friends' while speaking in Gander, N.L., at the 25-year commemoration of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. 'Canadians are tolerant and kind,' said Chrétien at the event, which was attended by U.S. Ambassador Pete Hoekstra. '[But] never mistake our tolerance for lack of determination. I hope Americans are helping neighbours and family with their math homework. $5,000 x 340,000,000 = it would be cheaper to provide Americans with affordable healthcare. ;)

@mcnado@mstdn.social No, it seems that while it is legal for Americans to carry guns, and politicians will advocate for the right of people to have guns, cops and politicians will freak out when they learn that someone near them has a gun. This guy pushed people out of the way so he could record her on his phone. It was when someone tried to pull him back that they noticed he had holstered weapons. https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/2026-election/armed-person-confronts-ohio-gubernatorial-cand...

People do have an innate instinct to help their neighbours. Look at every disaster. It is a minority of people who actually thrive on the exploitation of others. It’s worth remembering when things look their bleakest.

Good for her!!!! "A former lifeguard, Tomlinson dove into the water. When she reached the car, it was mostly submerged and the passenger was holding onto it. "I was very assertive and I told him that he was not to touch me, he was not to put his arms around me, that that would mean we would both drown," Tomlinson recalled. Oh, wow. "Across Richmond County, where parts recorded up to 250 millimetres of rain by Saturday afternoon, severe damage to local infrastructure has cut off entire neighbourhoods." It looks like this affects more than neighbourhoods. And yikes with the double whammy of power outages. And more rain to come. This is infuriating: "He said the age and state of the culverts have been a concern for years, and it has been brought to the attention of the MLA and others." http...
