@gedeonm@mastodon.social Thank $DIETY that subsequent episodes had better writing than EaF. Some of it was so cringe. 😬🖖

@gedeonm@mastodon.social My dad and I were so excited as well. We had always watched reruns of TOS and having new Trek was amazing. We would spend so many hours together watching Trek.

@gedeonm@mastodon.social I grew up watching TOS reruns and read all the books. When I watched that first TNG episode and heard "where no *one* has gone before" I was rocked. I had no idea how much that would mean to me. Still gives me goosebumps and makes me smile.

@gedeonm@mastodon.social I think I was a little too young to appreciate what the "no one" change represented, but I giving one of my original series Star Trek toys to my best friend earlier in the day to celebrate and feeling like something momentous was coming. Encounter at Farpoint has its issues, but is exciting and IMO does a great job of presenting competent people out of their depth (something less prominent after seasons 1 and 2) wrestling with complicated issues while trying to hold true to their values

@gedeonm@mastodon.social I had been backpacking for much of 1990/91 and found myself living briefly in a Bajan shed with a TV. I still remember turning it on, having barely watched telly for a year, and discovering to my delight - TNG. It was such an optimistic show I loved it.

@gedeonm@mastodon.social My first watched from the beginning Trek was VOY as I'm only in my early 40s 👴 . I can imagine how great this premiere was for Trek fans because of how much I remember and enjoy Caretaker. I think I'm probably due for a TNG rewatch. I've only done it once all the way through, and the rest was re-runs after school in the late 90s and 00s.

@gedeonm@mastodon.social as first episodes go this one was pretty great, too. The chemistry of the crew took a couple seasons to really come together, but this one set the stage for the greatness to come.
