@caitrionaGalway@mastodon.green I've only known a few completely blind people, but none have been blind from birth. They know what all those things look like. One piece of advice that really struck me was to try to convey the feeling of an image.
Also, a lot of the images people post are images of text, so that's easy to describe. When I'm uploading a text image to Mastodon it even offers to extract the text. It's quite amazing. Sometimes it needs some reformatting and error-correcting, though.

@bodhipaksa@mastodon.scot I don’t post text images so my descriptions would be of photographic images. I don’t want to make the situation worse by making assumptions and describing something from the perspective of a sighted person. I usually say it’s a particular animal or it’s a landscape etc. I’m quite anxious about this now.
