@FediTips@social.growyourown.services The way you used the word was fine. Most people - a vast majority - don't consider simple chronological display to be an "algorithm" in any sense of the word. (Frankly, it ISN'T an algorithm, but convince them of that. Sigh.) You're doing great work and at least I appreciate you for it. :heart_red:

You even explained how you were using it and why while acknowledging that other meanings exist. I would give that an A+ for communication. I'm sorry someone decided to be mean to you. I hope one day they learn to chill out and help people instead.

@FediTips@social.growyourown.services Accusing someone of causing harm for using the non-technical definition of algorithm is kind of darkly funny in a way. Like it's clear that they understand that words can have expanded and non-literal definitions, but seemingly only for words they want to use to make a fiddly argument about terminology sounds more dire. Tbh, between the word "algorithm" and the word "harm", it is probably more important to insist on an accurate definition of the word "harm".

@FediTips@social.growyourown.services Gosh they could of simply suggested saying "recommendation algorithm" lol, same as one would say generative AI instead of just AI. Computers in general are algorithms, the basic raw sense of AI is algorithms, and aren't in itself bad things that the shitty recommendation algorithms and generative LLMs sure are that are co-opting those terms. But that's such a bad hill for them to be on getting pissy at you that hey you're spreading disinformation.. they could of just asked constructively for an adjustment in language because of.. rather than going the accusatory route as if they were calling you out on something bigoted.. unless their idea of bigotry stops are those poor algorithms lol. But for goodness sake lol when you're there acknowledging other meanings too just what the heck was any of that lol. Some folks geez
