@marcoarment@mastodon.social @pkirn@mastodon.social Sadly I can't find a screenshot of the paint program I grew up with. But it ran on one of these, and we didn't have a mouse, you had to move the cursor with the numpad.

Despite being the “Mac Guy” in virtually every room I walk into (all-in from 2001 on), I too grew up on MS Paint, autoexec.bat, COM, and IRQ ports. This monstrosity was literally one of the answers the Sears sales guy gave to my parents asking “But other than play games, what can you *do* with it?” I remember a picture of a train, in a lot of black and yellow.

@marcoarment@mastodon.social Could be Stockholming a bit, but I was pretty darned excited when I found JS Paint so I could finally make edits to images on macOS, um, in the way I’m most familiar. So much easier for most one-off tasks than gimp. I’ve never found anything quite as useful as MSPaint on Mac (Seashore got close) since MacPaint. JS Paint has rough edges (alt-menu accelerators don’t work for me, some ctrl-[letter] shortcuts won’t fire, & can you turn off the alert sound?), but kind of like editing html by hand, if I #AbsolutelyHaveTo do it myself for a one-off, I can now make the image look the way I want. And it’s Electron so if I hate it, well, I should contribute. Plus no AI. 😉

@marcoarment@mastodon.social That wasn't yesterday. Windows for workgroups which you had to use DOS for to get in. They don't know how lucky they are today. Press a button and you boot into windows. And paint has 3d etc. now!
