I have released #McKinley 1.3. (McKinley is my Mac app for making and editing SF Symbols.) 1.3 is a huge update behind the scenes, mainly focussing on performance and correctness. It should be a _lot_ faster to work on symbols with complicated knockouts, many paths, etc. There’s one main new feature though, Minimum Internal Radius for strokes. https://mckinleysymbols.com Get McKinley for $60 (no subscription!) or try the fully functional demo. #buildinpublic #macdev #iosdev #sfsymbols #indi...

Yey! McKinley made it to iOSDevWeekly this week :D

No sales of #McKinley over the last few days. I was pleased with my launch week, but now I’m worrying again about how I can market this going forward :( #MacDev #IndieDev #BuildInPublic

Do any of my followers do machine embroidery? Would you have any interest in a Mac app to make and edit artwork? (With a native GUI and built on the same vector editor you've seen in McKinley…) #embroidery #machineembroidery

What's New in McKinley 1.2, my Mac app for creating #SFSymbols: https://youtu.be/W6bHzw5pMvY I made a video showing off some of the updates. These improvements are all in response to user feedback, so if you have any requests or suggestions do feel free to send them in! #MacDev #IndieDev #BuildInPublic

I'm pressing ahead with updates to McKinley. Some nice fixes plus some additions as requested by my users! https://mckinleysymbols.com/version-history #MacDev #BuildInPublic #IndieDev

MCKINLEY IS OUT NOW! McKinley is a Mac app for making SF Symbols, combining a vector editor, tools that understand symbol weights, smart preview, an export that skips the tedium of converting strokes to paths, and automatic Xcode asset catalog sync. Normally $60 (one-off purchase), but there's a 15% launch week discount (to $51) until Sept 14th! https://mckinleysymbols.com And for those asking, it's named for McKinley Square in San Francisco. #SFSymbols #MacDev #iOSDev #Apple #Mac

I wrote a blog post about how McKinley's preview window is capable of rendering your in-progress SF Symbol using actual NSImage/SwiftUI. https://www.amyworrall.com/blog/previewing-sf-symbols-with-apples-own-renderer

Getting there with my new look-and-feel for Deluge (my in-development task management app for the chronically overwhelmed). #BuildInPublic #iosdev #swiftui

Tying my brain in knots trying to figure out a sync logic issue. I've got repeating tasks, wherein the new instances of the task are created by a background job when the relevant criteria are true. Trying to work out how to handle two devices independently deciding to create the instance, before syncing. #BuildInPublic #cloudkit #iosdev

Getting to the point where I'm pretty happy with Deluge's review question UI. #BuildInPublic #iosdev #swiftui

Does anyone know what percentage of data centres use fresh water for cooling (as opposed to some kind of closed loop system or non-water-based cooling)? And if that percentage is different for new builds vs established data centres?

@amanda@social.spejset.org @nicklockwood@mastodon.social yeah, this. If you’re sharing a ChatGPT response with me you’d better be prepared to justify why you agree with it. (And if you’ve already adopted it as your own opinions, why mention ChatGPT at all, other than as an appeal to authority?)

For a task management app, would you expect/want it to use iCloud's encryption-at-rest features?

@rechelon I notice that for many of them you only have imposed PDFs. Would you find it useful to be able to un-impose them and make paginated PDFs in reading order? (I'm working on a Mac app for PDF imposition, I could easily add this feature, and could probably do it as batch processing if you'd find it useful.)

@neil I have the vaguest of memories of doing that. My childhood phone number was Bridgemere 347, and I'm pretty sure that there was a local code of 85 to be able to direct dial it from some areas…

I wish there were a Mac browser that was just Safari in every way, apart from it had a proper customisable toolbar with separate non-combined buttons for functions like reader mode and hide distracting items.

In review for Google’s equivalent of external TestFlight. It’s been a few days so far… (Yes I built something in react native. Don’t worry, my first love is still UIKit!)

Got a user request for templates in Octavo (my Mac app for PDF imposition). Do you guys think I should build on top of the "Stationary Pad" finder flag? Do any of you actually use that? Advantages of using it, it'd handle the open-as-new-document flow for me. But the disadvantage is, I couldn't set a separate icon or extension for the template files. #appkit #macdev #BuildInPublic

Trying something out: told an AI to help with a refactor, but not write any code for me. Instead, it should prompt me for each place I'll need to update, and check my work. (I told it not to write code snippets for me to copy and paste either.) I'm hoping this'll solve the thing I hate most about refactors (worrying about missing something, holding the holistic list of changes in my head), but make sure I fully internalise all the changes to the codebase.

Lovely email from a user today, mentioned that he’d exhibited his zine at a zine fair and put a little “made with Octavo” text on the back cover :D #BuildInPublic #macdev

I alluded to automating my screenshot creation for Octavo's website and App Store page. I finally got round to writing a blog post about how I did it! https://www.amyworrall.com/blog/automating-mac-app-screenshots It's a combination of #XCUITest automation, #AppleScript for setting up the Mac, and a bit of scripting to run the tests and post-process the images. #BuildInPublic #MacDev

Introducing Octavo, my Mac app for turning PDFs into booklets, cleaning up bad scans, printing zines, labels, and more. If you follow me, you may have seen my #BuildInPublic journey developing it over the last few months! It's now launched, and is available on the Mac App Store for $25 (via in app purchase so you can try before you buy). https://apps.apple.com/us/app/octavo/id6757485225?mt=12 For more info, the website has more screenshots and a copy of the user's guide: https://octav...
