I didn't quite know what to expect when I removed the original anode rod - it was nearly as tall as the big tank (and me) and it hit the ceiling. I had to actually cut it in half to get it out because of course you can't just tip or move a water heater - it's all plumped in place with copper pipes and whatnot.
Bonkers design.
The new electric one is only like.. 13-14 inches long which seems... tiny.. but.. apparently is all that's needed with electrified ones and they say it lasts 20 years.

So again.. WHY THE HELL ISN'T THIS JUST STANDARD ON AN ELECTRIC WATER HEATER IF ITS BETTER?! Like.. wtf? There's already electricity going to my water heater! It would be *trivial* to install at the factory and seal it up never to even need to be opened again, tbh. And it's shorter and therefore less materials, too. I don't get it. Now I have a power brick *and* a hard wired wire going into my water heater. Just... why? So many appliance and home things are like this - patchwork.
