@mdstevens0612@mas.to I think a big part of it is that, back in the 90's and esrly 2000s, the people the games were aimed at had a lot more technical knowledge & ability compared to the target audience now.

@garrwolfdog@yiff.life @mdstevens0612@mas.to That's sorta a possibly valid argument.... but I feel like a lot of this shit is what led to this knowledge/ability getting lost because people no longer had the incentive to learn? I dunno, just can't help but feel it's been a factor; everything became so "easy" for a while so people no longer had the incentive as much to think about how to host their own stuff or think how to even just lookup their IP address so private friends can join them that way etc
