@garrwolfdog@yiff.life @mdstevens0612@mas.to That's sorta a possibly valid argument.... but I feel like a lot of this shit is what led to this knowledge/ability getting lost because people no longer had the incentive to learn?
I dunno, just can't help but feel it's been a factor; everything became so "easy" for a while so people no longer had the incentive as much to think about how to host their own stuff or think how to even just lookup their IP address so private friends can join them that way etc

@Fringecrow@yiff.life @mdstevens0612@mas.to thats definitely a factor. But it's never been easier for people to learn how to run their own servers and never easier to get hardware to do that. The percentage of technically inclined gamers used to be almost 100% cos it HAD to be. But gamingnis more mainstream, and more accessible now. So that larger non-technical market get catered to. There's a whole lot of more in depth reasons why bigger studios want to manage their own servers too of couese, but thisnisnt really the forum for it. I definitely think companies should release the server code to the community when they depricate the service.
