@mlanger@mastodon.world Yes, the animals were quite good at moving around on the hobbles-- they hopped with both front hooves together at a very quick pace (similar to a medium walk by a human). They were so used to hopping that, once the hobbles were taken off, they sometimes continued with a hop, forgetting that the hobbles were off!

    @TimKStanton@mstdn.social That's pretty funny! A lot of people who don't really know horses and cowboys think that hobbles are cruel. They are not. The ones I've seen were always padded so they would be as comfortable as possible. Horses get used to them quickly. One of my horses had been a real ranch horse earlier in his life and he could be "ground tied." That means simply dropping his reins on the ground. He would just wait until you came back and picked them up. Not be an overnight solution, though.
