@TimKStanton@mstdn.social That's pretty funny! A lot of people who don't really know horses and cowboys think that hobbles are cruel. They are not. The ones I've seen were always padded so they would be as comfortable as possible. Horses get used to them quickly. One of my horses had been a real ranch horse earlier in his life and he could be "ground tied." That means simply dropping his reins on the ground. He would just wait until you came back and picked them up. Not be an overnight solution, though.

    @mlanger@mastodon.world That's impressive that your horse could be ground tied. Not even close for these horses-- they really wanted to move about in search for the best grass. The wrangler/guide (who was also the owner of the horses) told us that the training of the horses was largely wrecked by having so many different types of riders (and range of skillsets) ride the horses.
