It's absolute nonsense & abelist to-boot when #GameDev folks decide handicapping the in-game map adds realism.
In real life I can walk up to a person & ask "Hey I heard a farmer around here is getting hassled by goblins?" and they will either point the way to it, or to someone who knows. Maps too are SUPER easy to get, even pre-GPS era.
Also our minds are better at mentally mapping a region we are living in vs seeing on a screen.

And don't even get me started on how different humans are in their memory recall & abilities to navigate large regions. "No waypoints, we want you to explore." Isn't accomplishing what they want it to. People will wander randomly if they want to, others will just look it up online & get more of a shortcut than if the game map was decent.
