#AskFedi #Security: Looking for good smartlock recommendations for a house in the US, in a neighborhood where forced entry isn't too much of a concern. My friend's current one is in need of retirement, and I'm a lock person (but the "smart" part isn't really my thing 😋). @deviantollam@defcon.social?=

@alice@lgbtqia.space @deviantollam@defcon.social I used to be head of security for a smart lock company. I have a Nest x Yale on my garage, because the locks we made are only for managed residential facilities and no longer under my oversight. When I evaluated everything out there circa four years ago the Nest was still the main competitor. None of them are great. Ours was well designed but it would have been two or three times the price of the competitors in the retail space as the were designed for the managed facility use case.

@alice@lgbtqia.space @deviantollam@defcon.social Depends largely on the desired features. For example, UWB for touchless unlock (Apple Home Key, or Aliro) is only available on a handful of devices right now. Schlage released a new smart lock recently which seems nice, the Sense Pro. https://appleinsider.com/articles/26/08/20/schlage-sense-pro-review-uwb-home-key-proves-itself-again-on-this-sleek-smart-lock
