🧵 8/21 I am particularly interested in the twenties and thirties, so I was delighted to find the Moderna Museet staging both “Brassaï – The Secret Signs of Paris” and "The Subterranean Sky: Surrealism in the Moderna Museet Collection". I shall have more to say about surrealism, as prompted by this exhibition in a future post. I could kick myself a hundred times for not handing over a few dollars for "Brassaï -- The Secret Paris of the 30's" at a yard sale. https://www.modernamuseet.se/en/stockholm/exhibitions/brassai/ #Sweden #Stockholm #ModernaMuseet #Brassaï #Photography #Paris #1930s #Art #Surrealism #20thCentury

🧵 9/21 Drinking in bars is expensive in Sweden, nor did I have any desire to go out to bars by myself. Instead, I went to a nearby Systembolaget, the Swedish state monopoly retailer of alcoholic drinks, and brought myself a bottle of ruby port and some beer to accompany the cheeses and cold meats I was eating in my hotel room at dinner time. The prices were, to my surprise, roughly comparable to those in the USA. I'm glad they don't have the ration card system for Systembolaget purchases any more, but the closure at 3:00PM on Saturday and all day Sunday is a bit of a pain. I wonder how successful the promo free Systembolaget monopoly has been when it comes to excessive drinking. Image: Marcin Martychiewicz #Sweden #Drink #Systembolaget
