🧵 9/21
Drinking in bars is expensive in Sweden, nor did I have any desire to go out to bars by myself.
Instead, I went to a nearby Systembolaget, the Swedish state monopoly retailer of alcoholic drinks, and brought myself a bottle of ruby port and some beer to accompany the cheeses and cold meats I was eating in my hotel room at dinner time.
The prices were, to my surprise, roughly comparable to those in the USA.
I'm glad they don't have the ration card system for Systembolaget purchases any more, but the closure at 3:00PM on Saturday and all day Sunday is a bit of a pain.
I wonder how successful the promo free Systembolaget monopoly has been when it comes to excessive drinking.

🧵 10/21 I mentioned in the previous post that I didn't want to go out to bars in Stockholm at night by myself, nor did sitting alone in a restaurant seem an inviting prospect; perhaps one day I will be in Stockholm in the company of another and will so be ready to enjoy a dinner at Pelikan or Prinsen. Nevertheless, like just about every other tourist who visits Stockholm, I had to try the Swedish fast food eatery Nystekt Strömming. The herring platter was delicious! #Sweden #Stockholm #NystektStrömming #Food #SwedishFood #FastFood
