Have you also tried the wood shaves got when making timber?
I habe seen people use it in certain stoves for fuel instead of charcoal

@greenyouthmovement@masto.nu I use wood shavings (or sawdust) to saggar fire my pottery sometimes. I also sometimes use it in garden compost although I learned that a little goes a very long way.
