What's the alternative?
Nobody on the Lemmy side is talking about fixing the AI problem. The only reason why you don't see a flood of LLM content is that we're too small for anyone to give enough of a shit. If we grow enough, we'll get flooded just like any other social media platform, and federation does nothing to protect us from this.

Require the big AI companies to embed watermarks with entirely free and private decoders, as well as use things like Hcaptcha passive and/or Turnstile on Lemmy and defederate from instances which don't implement them.

Yes, we need a better alternative. But people shouldn't accept their privacy being raped just because billionaires are lazy to implement better systems (but more likely they want to gather all the user data and are just pretending that there aren't better solutions), doesn't mean people should accept these shitty solutions. And guess what. I believe the FOSS community will come up with a much better solution than the greedy, cheating billionaires.
