The really annoying thing though is that my water heater *is* electric. If an electrified anode rod is better, then why the hell didn’t it just come with one built in?! Shit like this drives me crazy.

I didn't quite know what to expect when I removed the original anode rod - it was nearly as tall as the big tank (and me) and it hit the ceiling. I had to actually cut it in half to get it out because of course you can't just tip or move a water heater - it's all plumped in place with copper pipes and whatnot. Bonkers design. The new electric one is only like.. 13-14 inches long which seems... tiny.. but.. apparently is all that's needed with electrified ones and they say it lasts 20 years.
